They are boiler-room fund raiser operations that give next to nothing the organization they are suppose to be representing. They make it sound like they ARE your fire or police department. ALWAYS make them say that they are WITH the department. If they actually say they are, ask for their badge number and what precinct or stationhouse they are at.
Better yet ….. just hang up. You know where your safety departments are if you feel like you want to give them something.
