Once upon a time in a place overrun with monkeys, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.

The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them.

The man bought thousands of monkeys at $10 each, keeping them in giant cages; and as supply started to diminish, they became harder to catch, so the villagers stopped their effort.


The man then announced that he would now pay $20 for each one.
This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.
But soon the supply diminished even further and they were ever harder to catch, so people started going back to their farms and forgot about monkey catching.


The man increased his price to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so scarce that it was an effort to even see a monkey, much less catch one.

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys for $50!
However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his behalf.


While the man was away the assistant told the villagers: 'Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has bought. I will sell them to you at $35 each and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each.'


The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys.


They never saw the man nor his assistant again, and once more there were monkeys everywhere.

A rare reptile with lineage dating back to the dinosaur age has been found nesting on the New Zealand mainland for the first time in about 200 years.

Four leathery, white eggs from an indigenous tuatara were found by staff at the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary in the capital, Wellington, during routine maintenance work on Friday, conservation manager Raewyn Empson said.

"The nest was uncovered by accident and is the first concrete proof we have that our tuatara are breeding," Empson said.

"It suggests that there may be other nests in the sanctuary we don't know of."
Tuatara, dragon-like reptiles that grow to up to 80 centimetres, are the last descendants of a species that walked the earth with the dinosaurs 225 million years ago, zoologists say.

They have unique characteristics, such as two rows of top teeth closing over one row at the bottom.
They also have a pronounced parietal eye, a light-sensitive pineal gland on the top of the skull. This white patch of skin - called its "third eye" - slowly disappears as they mature.

A native species to New Zealand, tuatara were nearly extinct on the country's three main islands by the late 1700s due to the introduction of predators such as rats.

They still live in the wild on 32 small offshore islands cleared of predators.
A population of 70 tuatara was established at the Karori Sanctuary in 2005. Another 130 were released in the sanctuary in 2007.

The sanctuary, a 250 hectare wilderness minutes from downtown Wellington, was established to breed native birds, insects and other creatures securely behind a predator-proof fence.

Empson said that the four eggs - the size of ping-pong balls - were unearthed on Friday but that there were likely more because the average nest contains around ten eggs.

The eggs were immediately covered up again to avoid disturbing incubation.
If all goes well, juvenile tuatara could hatch any time between now and March, she said.

I've also taken either 10,000 or 5,000 mg of Vit. c (milligrams not micrograms) I dont remember and only managed to eat about 5 tablespoons of chili, 2 grapefruit, an apple, and some grapes.....over the last 2 days.....

I was supposed to get my SARTECH III certification this weekend but I really can't see myself in the woods in the rain for the next 2 days. And LordSnow needed time away for him...... not that I don't understand but..... sigh....cry...

:hair: I didn't miss not having to chip off the windshield when I came out of work but I actually only had 3-4" at home. Between lake effect and some odd topography, "the Cleveland snow belt" had up to 10" less then 4 miles east of me. Tonight we had thunder snow but still only a couple inches. The worst part is it's a heavy snow (just below freezing) and a lot of the leaves are still on the trees. Makes for a lot of downed power lines and tree damage. :(

are you right hand dominant? from what I understand, most women are naturally a bit lopsided with the smaller of the breasts being on the dominant hand side, as women tend to exersize the pectoral and other chest muscles on that side more. Just like your dominant hand tends to be a bit bigger ie ring sizes.

Reminds me of last year, when I was digging in France, and I actually found mercury in the ground... Thinking that it was just little silver beads or something, I put a two or three of the pearls into my palm to walk over to show them to the director of the dig - opened my hand to find just the one blob, and thought, oh crap!

Hatmakers used the stuff for years on a daily skin-contact basis before their poisoning hit critical levels.

At Teachers College it was a diversion to chase mercury around a glass plate and watch it break up and join up again.

Mercury poisoning, & its tendency to nibble away at the brain, led to the expression "mad as a hatter". I knew about hatmakers' use of mercury, but never knew exactly why; thanks OF.

Another example of how it's a miracle that any of our generation survived to adulthood, my mother thought nothing of letting me keep the mercury from a broken thermometer in a little plastic box to play with. Nope, no face shield, no hazmat suit, I just picked it up (or tried to) with my bare fingers.

Both my vet and my friend today said they played with mercury as kids; my friend said they did it in school, as a surface tension experiment. (She's a bit older than I.) Apparently, it's not dangerous to skin, unless you have an open wound. The problem is breathing in mercury vapors; it bonds to the lung tissue easily, and from there, enters the bloodstream without so much as a how-do-ya-do.

Hello. Been away for a bit. Stepson is living with us. In the space of 2 days, during October, his fiancee' cancelled their wedding plans, told him to leave, and the next day, he was down-sized right out of Hewlett Packard. He'd had enough of CA and is giving NM a shot. It's cramped a little in this small house, but we get by. Some days, I'd like to run away though. :nod: And, I have now lost 53 pounds total and it is STAYING off. Well, that's about all I've got to tell. Probably enough. :nod:
