I was about to get on the streetcar today but the doors stopped working. I walked up to the next street to get the next car (in stupid high-heeled sandals b/c I decided I'd forego wearing sneakers. Foreshadowing, dumbass!) & phone work from a local bar (b/c I was too stupid to bring change for a payphone.

I get in the bar & can't remember the phone number. I phone directory assistance, they give me the main number of course & I can't get in touch with anyone through her crappy transfer. I walk down Queen & there's no car in sight. I stop into another bar a few blocks down & still can't remember the phone number. Luckily, the owner offered to lend me cab fare. It was very nice of her but I was re-fuming with memories of the transit strike on Monday.

I got to work on time but I'm out $15 & completely out of patience with that !@#$ overpaid transit union.

Steph

They're giving people with passes a whopping $4 back for the inconvenience.

I don't do the passes anymore since I lost my March one on the first day of the month which meant I paid $50 a ride that day. If I lose a tickets or token I only lose $2.10.

I am writing a letter to the city, though. Make transit an essential service, dammit!

May 17th, we had the south wall of an unrenovated portion of a building come down due to heavy rain and flooding. After structural engineers evaluated it, I suggested stabilizing the east wall to prevent it's fall as well. They concurred. The head of construction for our whole company visited and essentially called us alarmists, and authorized a very limited scope of work with a "hold harmless"...admitting fault should this not work. My boss and I thought he was insane, and battled furiously to change the work. No good. He's the expert, so that's who the owner's listened to.

The wall came down around noon.

Now I'm pissed.

A co-worker. She has a habit of not doing her job, and what many of us have to do is dependant on her completing her portion. Well, like always, she manages to not get what she needs to get done - or like today just doesn't show up for work (no phone call). So, the boss calls her at home and leaves a message as she doesn't answer her phone and tells me to finish up her work and take over some of her duties in order for the rest of us to be able to do our jobs (this happens at least two times a week). Well she had her husband call in and ask to speak to the boss (5 minutes after the boss leaves a message) and the call is transferred and it is her on the phone telling the boss that she and kids have a doctor's appt. Well, he tells her that she should have called in and that he is having me do her work. He comes out and tells us that she did call.

About an hour later - she calls me and starts yelling at me!!!! Another co-worker and I were at my desk and she could hear her yelling over the phone. She was saying that if we wanted to get rid of her we should just tell her instead of taking away bits and pieces of her job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <shakes head>

She has called me before when this has happened and there has been times that I have held the phone away from my ear and everyone in the front office could hear what she is yelling! I just let her yell - I used to try and calm her down, but now I just hold the phone away from my ear. Everyone else says just hang up on her. I believe next time I will. I just wish that the boss would just get rid of her rather than allow her to continue to slack off. :( When this happens, I have to put aside what I am working on to finish up her stuff and I am getting sick of it.

Oh well. It is Friday!!!!!!!!!! :D

Ok, here comes my rant...
The more I work at the animal hospital, the more I dislike people. Today, I watched a dog be put down because of thoughtless/cruel/unintelligent people. There's nothing like watching the life leave a dog's eyes to make you angry at peoples' stupidity. I learned that 6 million cats and dogs are put to sleep each year...it really hits homes when you watch it happen to even just one. When you put love and dedication into an animal and then watch it be put into a cadaver bag just because some idiotic human screwed up its life and then decided that the animal could be thrown out like the morning's trash...nothing gets my blood to boil as violently as witnessing what I saw today. :box:

I so agree with you PantyFanatic!!

I love life and livingthings so much that it hurts my heart to even kill a spider, let alone cause harm to any animal.

*ok now my rant, which this incident happened at our public pool yesterday. The mother of a young girl was trying to teach her to put her face and head underwater. The mother was doing well until the little girl started to cry that she was scared. The mother got upset and told her repeatedly to "shut up". The little girl cried harder, and the mother threatened to spank the child if she didn't stop crying. (this never made sense to me to do something that normally causes crying to stop the person from crying.) The mother the plugged the girls nose and dunked her, and of course, she came back up coughing and choking from the water she inhaled as she was crying. She cried, and then started screaming that she didn't like that and she was scared. That entire family proceded to leave then.

All I could think of is how scared that little girl will be of water now and some nasty things that I could do to those parents (I am wicked at the revenge game in my head...i just never carry it out)

^^^ *shudder*

I was sent a strongly worded mass email from the middle school band that my son is in. Seems 50 families haven't responded to their "orange fundraiser" and we were reprimanded by the person in charge for putting all this burden on him... if we don't respond, he'll have to call us all. Sorry, I was never emailed the original information and while I would have bought stuff before, fuck if I will now.

If you aren't going to do something with a tad bit of patience, don't do it at all. We pay plenty of money upfront to have our kids in band and we all do our part to support the band and all the kids. What a jerk.

Yesterday my boss offered me a 7 hour shift for next Saturday. Today she came to me and said that her daughter had said she could work then, and she was wondering if I wanted to split the shift. Her daughter is still in high school, and it's always been the policy to give the shifts first to the university students. I told her I did not, in fact, want to split the shift. Then she says "Oh but my daughter got hurt yesterday and we were in the hospital til midnight, and you could take some of her other shifts." (Her other shifts are like an hour or two at a time.) The wind, this brutally cold weather and the old windows on my house.

Was sitting here a little bit ago trying to get a breathing treatment completed when I heard something in my bedroom. Wasn't sure what it was so I go in not really knowing what I was looking for. Well, come to find out it was the wind trying to rip one of the windows from my house.

I've got the really old style windows, the kind where you have to hang the screens each spring and then change them back for the winter. Well, apparently the wind didn't like that my contractor won't be able to get me all set up with up to date windows until the spring so it decided to blow so hard that it ripped one of the latches at the top of the window off of the house leaving the window flapping against the house by the one latch. It even tore the hook out from the inside that was keeping it shut.

So, I go out in the damn frigid weather and have to try and wrestle with this huge F-ing glass window against 25 mph winds. I got it down and put away but damn am I mad.:mad::mad:

I eat lunch from the student cafe most days. It's run by student volunteers, which means the food is pretty cheap since they make no profit on it. My typical lunch from there is soup and juice.

Now because the place is run by volunteers, they ask you to wash your dishes after you are done. I don't have a problem with that - hell if I can have a big bowl of soup for 1$ I'll wash the bowl.

Today I was washing my bowl and spoon under the tap (like I always do and like everyone else does), and the volunteer working right then jumps over and turns off the tap, yelling at me that I'm wasting water.

Now, do you want me to wash my dishes or not?????????? :hair:

Michigan unemployment office I got laid off from my job just before christmass (dec 22). Went on line and filed for unemploymet and then called in when I was told waited the 10 business day (2 weeks). Still no check so I called in last Tuseday (Jan 23) to find out what was wrong. Found out that I had entered some thing in wrong when I filed that had screwed up my claim. He took care of it and told me I should be reciving a check in 10 days. Went and check the mail today still no check. So I called again after sitting on hold for a half hour (seemed like forever). I finely get to talk to some one and was inform the check hadn't been sent yet but it would be in the mail on Monday. What has realy pissed me off is in the fisrt place they did send me anything saying that there was a problem when I filed. If so I would have clear that up a lot sooner. Why after I had cleared that up they didn't send me the check or at least tell me I would have to call again.

Figures, something came up and the DM did'nt make the meeting. We'll be lucky if he can drop off the packets to the store tomarow. Unless some new store is comming from one of our closings then I better start looking for a job now. That means I should really update the resume. I hate doing that and I'm lousy at it.

Being behind on everything.....work, school. home stuff. Oh -- and my $2000 estimate to fix the heater.

I wonder if I'll really need heat this spring?

Finding out that the auto parts store cannot order a new blinker cover for my car. :(
Gonna have to walk the snow in a junkyard, unless we get lucky calling around and one has them inside. :)

If you needed references, we could probably collect several dozen right here at pixies. We'd leave it up to you whether you wanted to refer to us as "... the little people ..." or not. :)

(PS ... we are thinking of you and hope something comes along quickly for you. ((( HUGS ))) )

That's a bummer. I know for both the Mitsubishi and for the Mazda ... some parts have to be "dealer ordered" as they're not available from auto parts stores. I think that's a rip off, myself.

This house of mine. The drafty windows are just driving me nuts. The place is an eyesore from the outside and I need to do something about these hardwood floors before I lose what's left of my mind. I guess spring is just around the corner though and at least the windows and siding will get done then.

Well actually this pissed me off yesterday but I am still boiling about it - the library hires incompetents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I lost my student ID card earlier this week and that is what the library uses as a code to lend books. However, you don't need the card to borrow books, just any photo ID is good and they can find you in the system. So Wednesday when I went to the library, the woman who was at the lending counter sassed me that I needed to get a new card, and I told her that I was kind of waiting for someone to find it and bring it to the lost & found. Anyway, she *very* reluctantly let me borrow the books I wanted.

So yesterday I return to borrow more books. Lucky me, it was the same woman working there. So I take out my driver's permit, and she looks at me and says, "Oh you still haven't found your card???" So I say no, to which she says, "Well I'm going to freeze your account so that if someone finds your card, they won't be able to borrow books on your account." (Not that it matters, I am at my borrowing limit!!!) Then she continues and says, "But then I won't be able to lend you these books."

Now seriously, is she telling me that she can't freeze my account *after* she lent me the books??????????????? After I made that point, she sassed me more but dammit I wasn't leaving without the books!!! Finally, I have my books but I need a new card to borrow more...

Grrrrrrr she's supposed to be there to help students!!! Not make their life hell!!!
