Well said, I completely agree.I envisioned Terrorists worldwide smiling with glee at the fear still embedded in us after all these years.

From today's Sydney paper, a lesson for all.
Dave Turley (Letters, May 5) came home to find a man fiddling with his water meter. Dave has just had a brief conversation with his local burglar.
Sydney Water does not cut off the water for late payment of bills. All water meters have a handle just like a tap which can turn the water on or off as needed. The burglar's nasty little trick is to turn off the water to as many houses as possible. He will return a day or two later, and if the water has not been turned back on he will know the house is unoccupied. Let's hope none of the neighbours is on holiday.

Needless to say, I wasn't able to say anything that was going through my head at the time to the lady, since I was in a company truck. Way too many people in my area do that type of stupid thing during the summer time (population swells with tourist after Memorial Day), and they always think that they did no wrong. :box:

Don't get me wrong, I love my fiance to death...but I am about ready to kill him. He pays more attention to his books and computer games than he does to me. I work a LOT and don't get to see him all that much despite living with him. I come home tired and (as he is sitting at the computer playing his game) asks "So, what's for dinner?" I want to say "Your ass!!" - not in a good way. Last night, we had to go to the store to get stuff for dinner... after I worked 10 hours and he had the past 2 days off. On top of all this, I covered some shifts for other people at work, we are insanely busy at work, and my allergies are on mega attack mode. I feel like I was hit by a bus while sneezing my head off. I can't sleep well at night due to my nose being all stuffy and not allowing me to breathe. I've tried at least 3 different meds and nothing helps! I am going to go nuts!!!!!!!!
I almost forgot....
Last night, on the way to the store he tells me that I am going to watch the dogs while he and his family go somewhere (I can't go because I have to work later). I am stuck here with 5 dogs...it would really be nice to be able to leave work at work. At least I don't have to hang out with his family. Sadly, I am thinking I need a vacation from my fiance as well as from work...

1) A coworker that seems unable to work around anyone without being almost underfoot all the time, unable to understand how to have an appropriate conversation based on who happens to be around (i.e., he has a tendency to talk, loudly about sex and drugs when either the homeowners or small children are around), unable to shut up (the guy is always talking and/or singing (very badly), and thinks he knows more than he actually does (and doesn't have the landscaping knowledge he should have, especially if he really did run a landscaping crew for a few years like he says he did). Unfortunately, he is also a good friend of the boss' :curse:
2) Pissed off at myself for working faster than a probaly should have been trying to finish a project up at work. This led to me half ripping off a finger nail when I accidentally rammed my index finger into a wall block while trying to set a cap block on top.

2 weeks ago we had an owner come in with an emergency. He had 2 Dachs that he left tied outside (he fell asleep for 4 hours). When we woke up and remembered the dogs, he found them all tangled up together in their cords. The male had strangled to death and the female was barely alive. She came in and her body temp was a good bit below normal, couldn't walk, was unresponsive, and we put her on IV fluids immediately. The owner felt horrible (as he should!). She was hospitalized and sent home after a few days....
This week, she came back in. Her owner noticed that she had developed a black spot on her hip that seemed to be getting larger. When he was told to bring her in, he said he would just "keep an eye on it." About 5 days later, when she was finally brought in it was HORRIBLE. I saw her in the waiting room (briefly) and saw a black stripe running the full length of her side. It was a quick glance and I thought maybe it was road rash from being hit by a car.
Wednesday morning: I arrived to do boarding. When I saw her in the hospital cage I was floored. She was wrapped from shoulders to hip in bandage. Blood had soaked through it and she smelled awful (I call it the "death smell."). The doctor came in later that morning so that she and I could take care of her wounds. I almost threw up when she took off the bandages (and I have a pretty strong stomach). This dog's ENTIRE side, from shoulder to hip and from spine to just above her underside was skinless. There aren't words to describe this dog's injuries. I meant to take pictures of her but she was picked up before I got time to. The edge where there was no skin meeting with skin that was left was black. She also had a line (about 1/2" wide and the length of her body) on the other side. The doctor was able to flush under her skin via holes where the tissue was dying. By the next day, the black line was thicker. The doctor said the smell was from all the dead and dying skin tissue. She would need her wounds debrided (we cleaned with a Water Pic to remove dead tissue) twice a day for the next 4 weeks. She had already had surgery to remove large portions of dead tissue and I suspect she'll have to go through that again. the doctor thinks she will lose all the skin from her head down to her legs and tail. The owner came and picker her up yesterday with instructions on how to care for her. Considering what he has already caused, I will be surprised if this critter makes it. To be honest, I think she should have been euthanized rather than be put through this. We aren't sure of what caused it but the top 2 possibilities are:
1. The cord was so tight around her body for such a long time that blood flow was restricted from getting around to the skin tissues
2. He used a heating pad and placed her directly on it. If she was as weak as she was when she came in, she wouldn't have been able to move herself off of it, causing burns.
I tried to find some pics online the kind of show what she looked like. She looked MUCH worse than the pics I could find.
Burned skin: http://www.all-creatures.org/ha/jikken/dogBurned.html
We also started to clean her teeth. We stopped when we thought that the plaque was the only thing keeping them from falling out. You could actually see the root of her teeth, through to the other side. See the bottom pic at this page: http://www.veterinarydentalcenter.com/periodontal.htm
This dog is young. She is 5 years old and not spayed...what a wonderful owner.

This is one of those cases where I agree, the animal should have been put down and the owner tied up in a sack and drowned. That's kind of a surprise after all the dog has been through. I can think of a lot of my animals over the years that were closer to the mean when they were sick or injured.. Kind of par for the course when you can't explain that what you have to do will be uncomfortable but will make them feel better.

Just curious if you know why your vet has not introduced maggots to help with the necrosis????
Poor baby girl dog. Did anyone report him for abuse? Does he have kids?
AngelicVampires
07-31-2009, 07:36 PM
Using maggots isn't something that's all that common in Veterinary Medicine (that I know of). We usually anesthetize the dog and surgically remove the dead tissue.
I would LOVE to have him lose his dog do to abuse. The tricky part is that her injuries were not intentional and he got medical help for her. Also, I am afraid that he would just replace her with another animal. I couldn't imagine putting any living creature through what she is going through. Yes, he does have at least 1 teenage son. Hopefully he has a brain in his skull...unlike his father.

33. He's a good guy generally, but a bad judge of character. Just about every girl he's been with has been nuts. No one in my family likes this chic though. She can't hold a job longer than a month or two, we've heard her threaten her 6 year old daughter with stuff other than a spanking or time out (I'm not going into details), the last thing she did that pissed me off was they were both in my room and when my cousin left I asked to her leave as well and she said no. Told her again and she refused to leave. So I made her the hard way. Like I said, when it comes to women he's a bad judge of character. He has what I call the Damsel in Distress Disorder. He sees a girl in trouble and has to help.

Because she had some sort of "mental issue" about a year ago, we are all supposed to just put with her shit. I did say something to my supervisor and she took me aside and said that everybody had complained but word has come down from on high that we have to just deal with it. And to be honest, at the time a year or so ago, i did feel bad for her and her situation. But now, I think she uses that to get or say what she wants. Like when I was on holiday last month......she decided she was stressed without my being there and took three "stress days" while they were already short with my being away. It's just frustrating how she gets away with shit the rest of us would get fired over.

The fuckwits next door. They have 6 or 7 kids and they scream and yell incessantly at these kids. I'm sick of listening to a grown man and woman call little kids "little shits", "fuckin' this or that", how stupid they are, etc etc etc. And he has a real mean hateful violent-sounding voice. I just cringe for those poor kids having to listen to that almost all the time. Some days it will start at 6 or 7 in the morning and on the weekends will last hours. On Catch's day off work, the screaming starts as soon as they kids walk in the door from school. Nights are pretty quiet most times, 'cause we think he's down at the pub. And the sad part is, the oldest girl, about 9ish, is already becoming her mother. I heard them playing in the yard one day and she was screaming at the littler ones in just the same way. Sad sad sad.

A month after the incident, Annabelle died at home. Her owners brought her in for cremation which meant we had to strip off her bandage. Her muscles also died along her back and sides. I could see about 8 inches along her back of exposed vertebrae. Thank God her suffering is over.

Oh I'm going to start carrying a valve core remover so that I can let the air out of the tire by loosening the valve core and leaving it that way. Then when they go to air up the tires it just blows back out. Usually people just take up the slots by the car parking, but this was obviously done on purpose and not because of lack of space in the lot.

The trick is to just loosen it enough that it slowly leaks out so they think they have a leak in their tire. If done just right it will take them forever to figure out what is wrong.

It's not theft if you take them to the police (for safe keeping) and tell the owner where they are. Check your local definition of theft.
An alternative is to jack the car up and put blocks under it. Leave the car about an inch off the ground with tires still inflated, no damage and no repercussions.

What REALLY pisses me off:
Men/women who look upon an interracial couple as disgusting, improper or anything any different from any other couple. I would love to tell them : I really pity you for your narrow minded views. I am glad though. It leaves Marlboro for me. He's amazing, a more wonderful man I have never met. It's just so awful though to see that the stereotypical southern ignorance of racism persists and permeates through the world. Why limit yourself just because there's more pigment to someones skin? There are so many reasons to hate people on an individual basis.
Would children from our union be any less deserving of love? Would they be any less disgusting to you because their different-ness is diluted? Could you really tell the difference? Does it really make a difference? As long as there is mutual love and respect in a relationship between two consenting adults who are you to criticize us for finding happiness?
Thank you and all other small minded shallow people because being the way that you are leaves more wonderful supportive caring adventurous sexy men like him for women like me. I'm not a christian, but the law of love means EVERYONE.
I love pixies for our collective tolerance and acceptance but it hurts me to think that people who are here among us could see our picture and see anything but two happy people who are happy together.

I never make race an issue because i can find alot of reasons to dislike people other than race. i will say this however i spoke to a certain lady from this site will not call her out by name awhile back and everything was fine till she found out i am not white i just don't sound like a thug or like i am from the hood. i have a masters degree i have traveled the world speak 4 other tounges and can read and write 3 more than i speak. i am also an avid reader. However i don't fit in with my own culture because i sound like a white boy thier words not mine. Hell when i got the census under race i put american. Hell i think we should put all the color of skin aside and either get with the love making, share a drink, or pick on people for better reasons. like people being stupid. i mean after ya get rid of the blacks, mexicans, and asians rember this we built this country together and without all of us we will fail more so as a nation and a world than we have already. Oh and rember what Katt Williams said White people ya need some NI**A friends they will tell ya when things are not ok to say or do around other ni**a's. well first of all thank you to all who of you who feel as bama and i do. to say i was bullied would be the mother of all understatements. i was rather small as a child well behind the avg height but damn i was fat. and i mean honking huge. i was bullied by someone who never should have bullied me. when i hit my freshman year in highschool is was 5'3 and just over 400 lbs. at this point is was just a matter of my height need to catch my weight. i had already been running with my dad when he had time 3 to 5 miles a day and had been in and out of martial arts scince i was 7 or so. i just could not stop from gaining weight. first day of school someone found out my real first and middle name. and was making fun of me for it. first i ignored it then tried to walk away then tried to laff with them it didn't work. so me being the kind loving peaceful person i am i headbutted him in the nose and asked him if he was done. Bastard threw me head first into a locker. that was when i found out if you keep laffing no matter how bad it hurts it scares people. anyhow when the summer came i shot up almost a foot to 6'2 and topped out at 6'6 have not been bullied scince then. no idea why. but yeah i hate bullies and to all those who were bullied remeber sometimes we just get a late start on being better people.

And Black get some white friends that way you will have someone to get you outta jail.

Stream of consciousness writing may be great for getting your Masters, but it's downright irritating in a forum. Capital I is a great trick too.
You're making valid points, but painfully.

Next time tell him you are tired of the blown fuses. You want him to change out the service panel to breakers. Then changing a fuse won't be a big deal.
Oldfart

Oldfart
05-24-2010, 11:15 PM
Our fuses were shaped porcelain pieces that took a replaceable fuse wire. The new replacements are circuit-breaking switches that fit into the fuse bay without modification. New homes and replacement boards have the breakers built into the boards.
PantyFanatic
05-25-2010, 02:49 AM
Interesting. The key word that caught my eye was 'slot'. I had a hunch you were referring to tube fuses as we know them. They have never been used here for residential service but have and still are for commercial and industrial installations, particularly three phase service. Our residential service is normally 120v, 100 amp with two hots and a neutral. All the 120v appliances come from a single leg and 240v for motors above fractional HP and high wattage heating elements by using both hot sides but are still single phase.
This topic made me think of some of the OLD home installations I've seen. Some of the earliest were 'wire fuses' in a wood box lined with asbestos sheet and mounted on the wall with normally 2 circuits for the 20 amp service. It was nothing but two screw terminals connected with a small lead alloy wire intended to melt. Same principle as the replaceable flat strips inside the porcelain or single use fiber tube fuses I believe you were talking about. We moved from the wire fuse to round glass threaded plug with a visible link inside to see which had blown among the 4 to 8 circuits on a 60 amp service. Sometime near the 1950's they started using breakers with 100 amp service to all homes.
240v and 480v, 3 ph with 400amp and 600amp industrial service had a different evolution.

Mr PantyFanatic, I'm surprised at you. You, in your secret identity as SuperEngineeringMan, should know that snowshoes are a loadspreading device, and as such inappropriate for that purpose. Now pogo sticks, there's another story . . .

Many of these devices have threshold weights to stop sheep and rabbits from setting them off. Reference "Teller Mine". Pogo stick gives you sufficient pounds per square inch to go over that limit (probably). Apart from that, it makes them look ridiculous.

Yet again, it is pet "owners." I am fostering a 4 year old Basset Hound because his owners gave him up. I think they were just looking for a reason to get rid of him. They kept him and an old Lab mix out in their garage. They bought some chicks and the Basset decided that they looked tasty (he is a hunting breed...what did they expect???). So then they decided to buy more chicks and put them out on the front porch...not away from the dog. They bought a third set of chicks and left them out for several hours. Why the idea of supervising their dog or putting the chicks where he couldn't get them is totally foreign to them is beyond me. The end result is a nice doggie that needs a home because of stupid people. They left him at the animal hospital and don't care what happens to him.

Sorry to hear AV. I wish I could do something to help out. Unfortunately, we don't really have the room for any more. With 1 dog, 3 cats, 1 bird, and fish (I would like to point out here that these are not my animals they are my Dad's wife's), we don't have the room for anything else.

Politicians promise pegasus unicorns when all they;re getting is a miniature horse farm. In the end they'll have something with four hooves, and equine head that can fly for a small amount of time, the critics call it jumping, sometimes they manage to glue a horn on it but it never stays on long and no matter how obvious it is to the majority that it was just decoration, someone is going to be disappointed.
