*Wiping the last of the glasses, I place it behind the counter along with the others. I look at the clock and see it is almost opening time*

Damn! Where is this new barmaid that's supposed to be joining? The first day that my new Inn is open and she's late! I still can't believe that my last one had run off with a dawg trainer at the last minute. Not that she did a lot of work anyway. All she did was sit on people's (men's) laps.

*I look around the bar and lounge to make sure everything is ready for its first opening*

*Giving the counter's surface a last wipe, I pull up the top and go to the door. With the door unlocked, I step back*

Fifteen minutes late on my first day. Well, I couldn't help it if we had an accident. Those are the chances you take with public transportation in the city, I think as I try to reassure myself that my new boss will understand.

As the cab limped to the curb, I paid my fare and grumbled that the best tip he'd get from me was to take a course at the nearest driving school. Slamming the door behind me, I stood outside the bar and looked up.

The neon flashed bright red against the gathering night WELCOME INN... WELCOME INN... I took a deep breath and shifted my bag over my shoulder, pulling the door open.

"Hiya!" I called out to the man behind the bar. "You must be the boss. I'm... "

"Late. You're late," he grumbled in response.

Oh, brother. This one is gonna take some warming up to.

"Alright, put your coat in the cloakroom...."

*I stop in my tracks!!!!*

I can't believe my eyes! I thought I was finished with this cheeky Brit. This was supposed to be a new start in a new place -- and a pay raise. I squint my eyes suspiciously at Tib.

"I am the new barmaid, dammit. What have you done with my new boss?"

Pushing past the belligerent Brit, I put my things in the cloak room, calling over my shoulder. "You're stuck with me, bucko. Get used to it. I am on you like glue. And I fully expect that raise in pay that was promised when I was hired."

Okay here's the setting, It's set in the not to distant future, the world is a darker place now, it has seen many wars in the past few years, Most with devastating results, during one of the conficts a gateway was unearthed which unleashed wave upon wave of hellish creatures.
