:) Kindness of Strangers (:
Today I was speeding down a back road, you know the kind people take when they are in a hurry and everyone zips down, and a nice person flashed me to warn me a cop was ahead. Very grateful!!! Has anyone ever done anything nice like that for you or do you you typically practice any random acts of kindness?

I ended up tearing something in my ankle during my soph year of HS, and had to be on crutches for a week. One of the older guys in class that I didn't really know volunteered to carry my books around school for me so I wouldn't have to be all klutzy, trying to balance on crutches with a backpack. I thought that was very sweet and kind!

Random acts of wanton kindness are wonderful.
Confuses the crap out of a cynical world.
And fun.

Lilith---Just to let you know!A few years ago;my buddy was driving
on the Spaulding Turnpike in New Hampshire.He saw a State Cop;
parked with radar;to catch people coming the opposite way.He
flashed;his headlights;to warn them.Another State Cop saw him;
stopped him;and gave him a ticket.I forget what they charged him
with.It was something about;impeding law enforcement or defective equipment.I forget what it was.I know that he tried to fight it and lost.Sometimes people don't make an effort to help you;because it costs them. Irish
P.S.My buddy;lives in Florida now;so I can't ask him!
P.P.S.On a related subject;did you ever see the old Hells Angels
courtesy card?It is sadly true.It shows two long haired guys on choppers;helping a neat looking full-dresser rider that is broken down.It says:"When we do right;no one remembers!When we do
wrong;no one forgets!"

Once.....when I was younger......after I sold my dinosaur (teehee!) and I had an older car.......I was driving to a friends house and I had to pass through a rather scary town. It's reputation was that the gangs never slept and if you had to stop there you should keep your motor running. I got a flat tire right in the heart of the worst part of the town. It was around midnight. I got out of my car and got the jack out of the trunk and tried to remove the lugs but they were put on with an air gun and I couldn't budge them. I was scared shitless. No one seemed to be around. I saw a light in a window of a house so I went to the house and knocked on the door. No one answered. I turned to go to the next house and I saw headlights. I was shaking like crazy. The car stopped. Three men got out of the car. They were tall and all of them wore black. I went to my car and was going to get in it and lock the doors but they came up to me and said, "Do you know you are going the wrong way on a one-way street?" I didn't. They said they would change my tire. They did. Then they said, "You shouldn't be out here at this time of night. It's dangerous and to top it all off there is a cop at the end of this road with someone pulled over. You have to get out of here now!" I thanked them and asked if I could pay them for their help. They refused and said to just drive safe and get out of here fast. They could have done ANYTHING to me and no one would have been the wiser. I was educated that night as to random acts of kindness.........from the most unlikely source for that matter!

Lixy, those type of stories always scare me! Thank goodness it turned out for the best...that random act of kindness was probably someone or something looking out for ya!

I was coming home from work the other morning. Now i dont stop for people broken down on the side of the road, they could be axe murderers ya know! In fact we had some escaped prisoners who did the pretend to be broken down thing here a bit back!
Anyway
I'm driving along in my own little world, i spot this car in the distance with the bonnet up (hood) on the side of the road. Poor bastards i thought, cause they were stopped where it was a way of a distance to walk for any help.
So i get closer and i'm lookin', closer closer, and i see its a woman, closer and i see its a VERY pregnant woman...going past and see its a VERY pregnant sobbing woman.
Well what can ya do??? I HAD to stop...so i hit the anchors, hang a u-ie, drive back to her.
When i get out she'd stopped crying but man, poor thing, she looked, well, lost.
I gave he my mobile to ring her hubby, and stood with her on the side of the road to wait. 2 hrs late in absolutely freezing winds he arrives.
The woman kept telling me she was right now and i could go, but there was NO way i was leaving a heavily pregger woman (with twins i found out) on the side of the road, with no phone or anything, alone. Especially a stressed one!
So we gassbagged, laughed and generally got along well until hubby arrived. She was a lovely lady and not an axe murderer *LOL* So many cars didnt even give a glance at as and she said she had been there for a while.
I was just glad to help

About a month ago, we had a late Sunday dinner in San Francisco with a friend. He took CalTrain (light rail) up to the City from his house, so we just dropped him off at the station when we were done (it was about 10 pm).
Five minutes later, we get a call....the station is closed for the night, and there are no more trains. He asked us to drive him the 35 miles back to his place. No biggie...we turned around and headed to pick him up.
When we got to the station, he was waiting with a Chinese couple that had also been caught at the closed station. They were staying in Santa Cruz and had no way home, no money, and very little language skills. Our friend had seen them because the wife was crying when she realized they were stranded for the night. He volunteered to take them home.
So, 5 people piled into the car, and we drove down south to my friend's place. He then took them in his car the additional 40 miles to their hotel. It was a strange journey...because they didn't speak English very well...but every 5 minutes or so, the wife would say "thank you" in English to us.
I hope they went back to China feeling a little bit better about Americans.
