“Black Friday”
Glossary
Definition: The day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is frequently referred to as Black Friday.
General Use: One of the major U.S. holiday shopping days. The day many U.S. consumers begin Christmas shopping. The day is heavily promoted by retailers.
Origin: The origin of Black Friday comes from the shift to profitability during the holiday season. Black Friday was when retailers went from being unprofitable, or "in the red," to being profitable, or "in the black", at a time when accounting records were kept by hand and red indicated loss and black profit.

OF--In the U.S. at least, it's the one day a year that people will stand out in sometimes sub-arctic temperatures, in line for hours, in front of discount stores who open at 4:00 a.m. and which only have enough of the advertised products to satisfy the first 1.264 customers--in order that the rest of the 2350829820598325 people in line can growl, snarl, and run over each other with carts as the "official" start of the Christmas season begins.

Lilith,
Yes'm. Last year, she took the car, picked up a couple of her buddies (buddettes? No, wait, that's a different thread ) and was out of the house before 06:00. Bizarre!

I have met Summer at 5:00 at stores here. Last year I got a super duper cheap puter at Best Buy and lots of other great deals. It puts me in the Xmas spirit. It's usually freezing and I like the hustle and bustle.

Did it once and have vowed to never do it again. I can't deal with the large crowds of people diving for the deals... and more often than not, the deals aren't things I had on my list to buy.

I have done that a couple of times and it's great fun. Most years I got to work the day after Thanksgiving so I have to miss out on the pushing and shoving and those free gifts they give out at the door.

Or child care. I have a kid that comes now at 5am and doesn't leave until 6pm and no this sucker isn't getting anymore money for it. *rolls eyes*
