just because someone doesn’t share your interests doesn’t mean they aren’t interesting.

just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean they are being hateful, nor do they deserve your hate.

just because you don’t approve doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

just because someone is unlike you doesn't mean they are unlikable.

just because you might not be all that crazy about someone doesn’t mean you get to spit all over, or even ignore, any kindness they show you.

just because you don't want to doesn't mean you get to say no-one can.

just because someone does or says something you'd rather they didn't doesn't mean they did it only to make you mad.

just because you are a part of this world doesn't mean it revolves around you.

just because i typed all that doesn't mean you have to read it or even agree.

you're not kidding...i was at the grocer's and there was a woman who had a small basket of items and the kind old man (cart laden) in front of her said...oh, here you go dear, you have just a couple things, you go before me. and all she said was, oh, good...i thought i was going to have to wait in this stupid line forever and i hate those damn self checkouts.

not only was she rude but she felt the need to curse!?! :whack: shame on her. he shoulda changed his mind and made her wait. i wished i were in the same line 'cause i woulda objected out of sheer spite.

not saying thank you is one of my biggest pet peeves...my two year old has better manners than many of the adults i see.

Yep. My former boss called me yesterday afternoon after her power went out.

They also cancelled flights into/out of Midway last night after 6:00 p.m. The kids were scheduled to fly at 6:50, so they rebooked them this morning. That flight was also cancelled. After I waited for--not kidding--54 minutes to have my call answered at Southwest, I discovered that Southwest is not allowing unaccompanied minors at all today into Chicago and about six other midwest airports.

After a second call to Southwest (this time only waiting 42 minutes), and after much begging, I am now flying with my kids to Chicago tonight, then flying back first thing in the morning. Yay me. Does anyone know of the most comfortable spot in Midway to catch some sleep?

As I read it you have taught the Boys as much as they were capable of learning within the framework of their social and behavioral difficulties, given the resources allowed to you.

Mrs Oldfart was watching the Lehrer Hour, one of the foreign news programs brought by our SBS Television network yesterday when the subject of the new HPV vaccine came up.

A woman came on the show arguing against the mandated mass vaccination (with an opt-out for people with legitimate objections) on the basis of a perception of insufficient testing.

Mrs Oldfart couldn't understand how something which may save the lives and fertility of hundreds of thousands of women could be stalled because a miniscule number of people may have an unspecified adverse reaction.

She's interested in hearing how the Pixies ladies feel about this emotive issue.

Lilith
02-28-2007, 10:25 PM
I think we still have people here who were affected by the use of drugs that caused serious malformations and it makes people on edge. The other thing I am seeing is that the religious right is equating this vaccine with permission to be sexual.

Having had loved ones, family members, co-workers, and even Pixies who have suffered due to this virus, I am for vaccination. I'm wondering if the vaccine could be administered at an even younger age so the stigma of it being associated with sexual transmission would be lessened. The truth is that men can spread this virus with no symptoms and that is what makes it so dangerous. It does not matter if you are fucking around at 14 or is you are a virgin on your wedding day. The virus knows no difference.

i have a problem with mandated vaccinations only because i have a problem with almost anything that governments do that mandates what i do to my own body, or the bodies of my kids (and don't anyone take that to mean sexual or physical abuse, those are clear and present dangers). it's just my nature to be persnickety about these things. who has the right to determine if a person's objections are legitimate? what are the criteria?

I have mixed feelings about this. While I totally agree that it rubs me the wrong way to have someone dictate what must be injected into my body...without diligent efforts to maintain immunization programs here and strengthen them worldwide, diseases seen 50 years ago (such as polio) remain a threat today.

Very good and serious topic Wyndhy :thumb:
.....i have a problem with almost anything that governments do that mandates what i do to my own body, or the bodies of my kids .....who has the right to determine if a person's objections are legitimate? what are the criteria?
I too have an involuntary recoil from 'government mandates'. Coming up at in a different societal culture of individualism, personal responsibility and national pride of individual uniqueness, it has been a slow adjustment as we've evolved towards a more socialistic system. The trade offs have been many, but with few exceptions, it has been positive for our society for the most part.

On the other side of the coin has come the realization that with modern technological capabilities, we now have (rather THEY have) the ability to create sweeping, long term change at a rate that does not allow for the reviews and the adjustments of the learning curve necessary. As 'credibility' and blind faith in our government diminishes, it certainly causes conflict in foundations such as mine. As WI referenced, medical advancements have changed communicable diseases that at one time were meaningful threats to every family. And as Lil pointed out, there were devastating errors made along the way.

My personal belief in "advancement through constant evolution, not revolution" becomes more the guideline I function by.

And may you enjoy the Chinese curse of "living during interesting times". ;)

In my state if you refuse to innoculate your child, the department of children and families as well as the department of health do a home inquiry to determine the risk to other children before signing some sort of "objector" paperwork that will allow your child to attend day care or school.
