I traveled in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi yesterday ........
Why?

Locally, the low price seems to be $3.02 and we seem to be the lowest in the area. Interesting since it was just a week or two ago we were the highest in the area.

I understand some of the drop is due mainly to "storage tanks being full" and "demand running below normal. Guess we can just keep hoping they keep the storage tanks full and people continue to use restraint on extra driving. :wish:

Back up to $2.93 .... hope that doesn't mean it's going to keep going up.

Most around here seem to be at $3.19 ... but, and it's unusual, right now we're about the lowest price around. :)

I remember, or I think I remember, my father becoming angry when the price went up to $0.28/gal, but that was many, many moons ago!

… and there is to be an additional cost component soon (http://news.yahoo.com/epa-taking-aim-auto-emissions-sulfur-gas-071021486--finance.html).

Just as the ultra-low-sulfur diesel regulations that were phased in 2006-2010 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-low-sulfur_diesel) contributed to the change in the cost of diesel from less than that of gas to higher, the cost of the gas you’ll need to operate your car will likely be going up yet again.

Just realised you are talking about price per US Gallon, not per litre

Just converted current UK price:

US$7.95 per US gallon

More than 60% of that is duty tax
Moving to USA and buying a hotrod.

By leaving many more dollars in the gas buyers' collective pockets, this price reduction could give a significant boost to the economy. Let's hope it plays out that way. :)

Lord Snow
12-26-2014, 06:13 AM
It will give a significant boost, the question is will it be wise spending or not? Such as buying a vehicle that gets better gas mileage and in better condition than your current one, but still keeping it well within you financial means as opposed to buying a $50,000.00 Escalade on $20,000 a year salary.

Oldfart
12-26-2014, 06:46 AM
The international oil price has halved (almost) and the fuel prices should have dropped also. It's not a linear correlation because of taxes and production/distribution variables, but if it means that people have real money in their pockets, it's good.

Just checked and the Cleveland area price is 1.934/g (USD) [0.51/l] with 1.876/g as Ohio average. This past year has been a big change in many ways. For most of the last decade all area prices were so close it didn't matter where you bought petro. All stations within any view were identical on all four corners and not more than a nickel difference anywhere in the area. When the price changed with any jump, everyone in the region was the same within 4 hours. This last year you could find up to a $0.30/g difference around town. Now that it has come back to something reasonable they are talking about increasing the tax rate on gas. You know they are up to something and we'll take it in the ass again someway. Just enjoy it while it lasts.

My wife just got home and told me that in our little downtown, the two stations there were down to $1.69/g. Not sure about the other stations in town, but that sounds good to me. I may go top off my car's gas tank before long just to be sure I don't miss out on the price. :D

My current car runs on diesel, so slightly more expensive than regular petrol (gas) here.

£1:12.9 per litre!!!

Even allowing for a crappy exchange rate and that US gallons are inferior - sorry, smaller (1 UK gal = 1.2009499204287 US gal) - that still works out at .. .. .. ..

.. .. .. $5.70/US gal!!!

Dry yer eyes follks. High prices are coming your way soon, I hate to tell you!

On that note .. .. ..

Peace out guys.
