I was once a very active "online meet and date someone" person.
(Some of you already know why I don't do that any more)
But it was a lot different then. This was before eHarmony and Match.com and the rest. Please keep in mind I am writing about just a few years ago, as recent as 2001.
Then you went to to a free site, and met in chat. No personal adds.
There were some *ahem* alternate types of sites, sites for those of us with more focused or "special" interests and desires, and some of them had adds and charged a small fee.
I belonged to a few of them. But that was the past. Loneliness is big business now.
Nowdays they charge as part of their screening. Nobody wants to be sued.
I would suggest, if you are trying to avoid being charged and just want to meet, do it the old fashioned way, meet in the chat rooms of free sites.
But be ready to be disappointed.
