as far as I know, Quicktime only play movies with the extension .mov.....But in case I'm wrong, open Media Player and go to Tools>Options>Formats. Then select the file types you wish to associate with Media Player (ie the files you wish to be played by Media Player).
For Real Player, go to View>Preferences>Upgrade. Go down to where it says Media Types. Click on Re-associate.
This should restore all the file associations.
