birth control/ question....
I know these BC pills say after 30 days of use you are protected... so, my 30 days are up since first starting to pop the pill.... I KNOW DOCTORS ARE THE BETTER PEOPLE TO ASK, but thought I would ask people with actual EXPERIENCE with the pill....
so, after taking the pill {ladies who have} is it safer waiting a few extra weeks of taking to actually go unprotected? or is the first month on them okay to start?.... I also know the pill is under 100% effective so don't throw me health lessons, i just want opinions from females who have taken it and their first time unprotected on the pill and if they had any side effects after..

My understanding is that you are protected after one cycle of pills.

After the first cycle is fine - you're protected at 90-99% effectiveness depending on which pill you're using.
Just remember 90% means if you fuck 10 times then one of those times you have a chance of getting pregnant! I didn't really think about it until I had my first pregnancy scare but now am positively paranoid! Be careful unless you can deal with a baby!

Short answer, not entirely functional until you've been on them a full month.
Long answer/health lesson (sorry...but even if you're not interested, someone else may be): There are two mechanisms by which most oral contraceptives prevent pregnancy. First, and most importantly, it prevents ovulation. No egg = no chance to get pregnant. For that to work, though, you have to be taking the pills well before you ovulate. That's why they say you're not safe the first month....if you didn't start soon enough, you didn't prevent ovulatation. The other half of the effect is to make implantation in the wall of the uterus less likely IF ovulation happens (usually because someone oopsed and missed pills) and IF fertilization then takes place (kind of a belt and suspenders approach). So you are partially protected even in that first month. But like Englishlush said, if you have reason to worry about the results if the ammo turns out to be live...you shouldn't jump the gun (how's that for a thoroughly mixed metaphor ). One more month of condums is much less hassle than 18 years of everything elses, in my always humble opinion .

racevixen---I know that things have changed over time, but when,
my wife & I,were first married,she was on the pill.I drank,heavily,
& was home, whenever I felt like it.We lived in another state & at
the time,my wife, had no family nearby. She didn't even have an
operators(drivers) license then. After months,I realised that she was getting fed up.To save my marriage(wrong reason),I stepped
on her pkg of pills.She was pregnant,the next month!I had 3 hobbies then,1:Building fast things & racing.2:Sex!3:Drinking!Not
necessarily in that order!Hope this helps.By the way,Welcome!

Just remember, ultimately, the only sure fire way is to practice abstinence. Even if it is 99.999% effective, it could still happen. 50%(2 out of 4) of our children were conceived while my wife was on the pill----thats a combined 36 years of "oops"---(j/k, I really do love my kids). Of course, they were girls, so they should hit puberty about the time my wife hits menopause---is that timing or what!
