Do your children reflect you?

As an adult I can see both my parents in me. As a child I'm pretty sure I was like my parents when they were young, I kept myself entertained, never spoke during the tv program or if an adult was on the phone. Granted I left my Barbie dolls set up on the floor or my laundry was'nt always in the basket but I had respect for my things and for others.

Going thru my daughters room today got me thinking. She is like me in some ways but cripes she has no respect for her things or others sometimes. CD's out of cases on the floor, garbage garbage garbage, can't pick anything up if it spilled, has plenty of space and containers to put things but can't use them, comes home from playing with friends to a room full of stuff and is bored. She is a good kid, but what a total slob. I'm hoping this improves with age. I'm curious to see her as an adult and how much she will reflect her parents.

Are your children like you?

I have this theory about first borns. If you have trouble getting along with your first born, I think often it's because they have traits that remind you of you. Especially the traits that bug the hell out of you about yourself. It's like seeing those traits magnified. That being said, yes my oldest drives me fuck loads of crazy and he's sloppy, cluttered, unorganized, a smarty pants/know it all, and talented in ways it does no good. All traits I don't like about myself.

The good things he got from me are his interest in helping others and his auditory processing skills.

I can already see a lot of Fussy in our little one. He's a very physical child - very close to crawling and only 7 months old, but seems miles away from talking and isn't that much of a one for sitting quietly looking at a book.

From me, I think he gets his temper. He's fiercely independent and get immensely frustrated when he can't do something he feels he should be able to (like crawling, for example) and he expresses it by getting angry and upset.

On a more superficial level, everytime he beams a smile these days, I see myself. He smiles with his eyes more than with his mouth.

#1 I always put off as being too much like his mom, & it shows in how they clash over evrything...#2 looks so much like me people constantly point out the resemblence. He's also pretty good at math, shy until he gets to know you, & thinks it's funny to annoy people, which seem to be traits I've passed on...funny thing is, we seem to be pushing each other's buttons a lot these days, I'm hoping it's just the teenager thing he's passing thru...

I see facets of myself and their mother in all 3 of mine, sometimes at the most surprising times.

No, my child is opaque, with a non-reflective surface covering.

My youngest is sooooo much like me. He's sensitive & shy, caring & very funny, loves to know how things work, and very very very much a boob guy.

My oldest retains everything he reads, cannot be convinced that he is wrong about anything at all, thinks the sole purpose of the earth's roation is to give it something to do around him, knows how damn good looking he is, and doesn't think homework is necessary to pass school despite report cards reflecting otherwise (see "cannot be convinced that he is wrong").

My daughter is sweet and wonderful, of course.
