Have you ever experienced a noticeably rapid (more so than usual, enough to make you wonder) heartbeat during masturbation or sex? If so, what, if anything do you do about it?

May I ask, Belial, is it happening during masturbation or during sex or both?

I'm just thinking that if it is during sex, it may simply be a nerves/ exertion thing since it's a relatively new experience for you. If it's happening during masturbation when you're alone, then there may be more to it.

I would mention it to the doc, however the chances are that you're absolutely fine and normal. Have you been as active in other areas of life recently? Maybe your fitness level is just not as good as it has been in the past....

I have had this checked out before (about 2 years ago), the docs (4 of them) said it was anxiety, after I'd had an ECG and 24-hour ambulatory monitor. This particular time, which happened during masturbation, I'd been nervous because of some slight muscle soreness around my left shoulder/upper back/underarm/pec. area that has persisted for a few days and I'd been checking my pulse occasionally. I walked about a kilometre on my way home, fairly briskly, felt what was probably the muscle soreness and checked my pulse again, it seemed rapid but ok - consistent with physical exertion though perhaps I'm unfit also. About an hour after I got home I masturbated and noticed a fairly rapid heartbeat as I went at it more vigorously. After I finished, I took some deep, slow breaths and it was back to fairly normal after about 30 seconds.

It's also the first time it's happened in masturbation for a long time, possibly more than a year.

Rapid heartbeat is obviously a sign of sexual arousal, so it's probably fair to suggest that it's probably just that you had exerted yourself more than usual, or that you were more aware of it than usual having checked your pulse earlier that day.

I have to say, I'm fairly body conscious, check my breasts regularly, go for smears when I should etc but I've NEVER felt the need to take my pulse, even when I've been aware that my heart rate has increased. Not even since being pregnant have I felt paranoid enough to do that, so perhaps your anxiety about your physical health is actually what's causing you the problem. You've been checked out, you appear to be normal and your heart rate returns to normal quickly when resting. I personally don't think you have anything to worry about.

Sometimes after sex my heart feels like it will jump out of my chest, the harder the orgasm, the harder the thump.

My wife always says she can feel it when I am sometimes laying on her back afterward.
