Pleasure/Pain
We all know that there is a fine line between pleasure and pain, but I think that my friend is crossing that line. She revealed to me that whenever she masturbates, when she's having an orgasm, she will take a razor blade and cut herself. She showed me on her hips where she is doing this and it really freaked me out. They aren't just little scratches. Some of them really needed stiches. I don't know how to handle this or what to do to get her to stop. I know that being a masachist is okay, but she is taking this way to far. Please Help!!!

wow... yikes.. sounds to me like she has taken a dive over to the pain side of the line to me. I think that as a friend, you might gently talk with her and explain to her your concerns. Yes, it is true that some people enjoy LOTS of pain and receive sexual gratification from that, but I would hope to think that pain resulting in blood and scaring isn't something that most people would enjoy.
If she truly considers you a friend, she will accept your concern and share with you her thoughts. Maybe by talking about it, she can figure out another way to achieve the same result without causing herself physical pain, blood loss, and scarring.

Cutting oneself is a sign of deep emotional troubles ...please encourage her to confide in a qualified mental heath professional. This has more to it than just a sexual high I fear....

That's what I was afraid of Lil Hopefully when I make your suggestion to her, she will heed the advice and get help.

Is it really pain she’s after?
The fact seems to be that razor cuts are comparatively painless to the amount of damage they inflict. I agree with the others. There seems to be another problem here!
Good luck in getting help from the witch-doctor art of psychology.

I have to agree with Lilith...this is a sign of emotional illness. She definitely needs to be seen by a mental health professional.
If it becomes necessary you may even have to go to her counsellor or advisor at school. That won't be betraying her, it will be helping her. You can't let her go on like this! She really needs help!
