Ok....stupid fucking computers!!
Bilbos system has decided in its wisdom to delete every single one of our pics and vids!!! Well i assume thats what the shit of a thing has done with them anyway!!. (no one else but Bilbo & myself use it...so there was no accidental deletion on our part) They are nowhere to be found
Just as well i had them stored online...but now i gotta go retreive everyone one of the damn things
Anyone else had their puter delete something on its own?

No (((((Sharni&Bilbo))))).....I haven't.......and now I'm scared! Yikes! Keep us posted as to your investigation into this horror!
Oh......but yesterday I was on a website (QVC actually) looking for a specific present........and I had a picture up and there was a button to enlarge it....so I clicked the enlarge button and a page from my documents cames up! That was weird....and now I'm wondering if that page is still in my documents!
BRB....gonna look!
OK...yep! It's still there! Oh well....it was still weird that it did that!
Good luck you two!

Lixy sometimes that will happen if your computer uses the same program to open the new picture that it did to view the old one. I have had that happen. At the most inopportune time I was looking at another pic with kids & hubbby near by and a pic I downloaded of a very sexy man's cock opened up first
Sharni~ I am sooooo sorry! I have never heard of such a thing. Are they not in the recycle bin?

When I saw the thread title, I knew it was from you. lol
Sorry to hear we’re both doing battle with our dragons. I have a MAJOR OS problem that I know I created. It has hidden the data files from my mail client. When I was able to pry open the system and get back in, it opened me a fresh, blank Outlook application. ALL my saved messages from two years and the address book aren’t accessible, but I CAN see all the folders listed in the [organize] option but can’t get too them. I also can do a system search and find files listed as being in [USER DATA] (without path name ). The point is that things can still be in there with a broken link.
I hope you get it sorted soon hun. I know the LOST feeling.

Never heard of that happening. I assume you've scanned to assure no virus.
I know after I lost my hard drive last year, I've started almost monthly backups (especially of text and picture files). Just don't trust myself or the computer. Even then, I accidently deleted a few pics a week or so ago.
Hope you find a way to get some back. Frustrating darn machines, aren't they?

Definately not a virus...i check for updates at least 3 times a day....and do a complete scan at least once a day
Everything coming into my puter is scanned including IM programmes...that is one thing we run a very tight ship on!
Accidental deletion....sorry not possible....we are talking 30 folders and approximately 600 + pics and 15+ vids
We would definately notice these being deleted *LOL*
Am totally stumped as to why its done it......

I feel your pain Sharni. I accidentally wiped the video footage of my baby's first bath the other day. I was sure I copied it and stored it on my 'puter, so I deleted it from the camera's memory card. Guess what, couldn't find it anywhere... Gone gone gone...
The good news is I managed to find some shareware undelete software and after a few attempts salvaged the footage from the memory card! Such a relief. Now I've backed it up everywhere!!

Four thoughts.... go with whichever best fits:
1) The machines are taking over. There's a world wide uprising, beginning with Sharni's puter, on to my washer that just up & quit today while filled with dirty clothes, on to.... who knows whats next. People of Pixies, beware of the machines in your home.
2) You can't live with them, you can't live without them!! Stinking pieces of metal. When did we become so dependent on them.
3) Someone has access to your computer from another location. My hubby can access his computer at work and all its files (which are all under passwords - works for the US Navy - high security) from our home computer. He is even able to access their web site from home & make changes to it. (he is authorized to do this but supposedly only from his work station)
4) Orli your elf stud did it. He wants you all to himself. Go check his little elf comp. I bet all your things are stashed away in there, under the heading: "My most devoted fan".
Good Luck Sharni!! Hope you can figure it out & retrive everything. Keep us posted so hopefully we can avoid the same thing happening to us.

*LOL*...the puter where the pics were stored is name 'Legolas' LMFAO
Though i had thought of remote access....but my security has showed nothing and its pretty tight to
I'd say it just a bad sector...and unfortunately it was the sector that held the pics

I asked hubby for some input. He said to run 'Scan disk', that would show if you had a bad sector or not. If it was bad there is no way to retrieve the lost data. He felt the only other cause could be third-party access and suggested you think of every person who has used your computer.
I love the fact you named your puter 'Legolas'! Now watch mine get all pissy and revolt against me cause it doesn't have a name..... quick whats a good name for my puter?? lol

The only ppl that get near Leggy is Bilbo or myself.....the kids occassionally use it...but they are supervised
I've just scanned and rescanned my system for Tojans (remote access)...there are none here
Scanned for spyware...a few...but nothing that would allow access
i will do a scan disk later this afternoon...just to be sure

LOL
I worked with a whiz kid a few years back that was playing with voice recognition. You have to have a puter "name" to enter commands. Naturally, everybody wants to name it Hal. LOL
heeeeere's Gort and he's on his owners side.
