Jan 17, 2003 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- CRUISE WINS $10 MILLION IN DEFAMATION SUIT

Tom Cruise has won $10 million in his defamation case against a porn actor who allegedly told reporters he had a gay love affair with the superstar.

Cruise filed the lawsuit against Chad Slater after the adult film actor apparently sold his story to the French magazine Actustar, said Ricardo Cestero, the "Vanilla Sky" star's attorney.

Slater, who also goes by the name Kyle Bradford, previously had claimed he never met Cruise.

"We don't have any idea whether he'll ever have means to pay, but we've obtained the judgment, which will hopefully make it clear that demeaning Mr. Cruise will not be a successful endeavor," Cestero said Wednesday, adding Cruise will donate to charity any money he does get from the judgment.

Slater had defaulted on the judgment, giving up his right to contest the lawsuit. The default motion did not, however, indicate whether Slater admitted he did anything wrong.
