From the National Weather Service for our area..... Watch out IowaMan! It is headed your way too!

Winter storm watch now in effect from Friday evening through sunday morning,
The winter storm watch is now in effect from Friday evening through Sunday morning.
The NWS in des moines has issued a winter storm watch, which is in effect from Friday evening through sunday morning.
A major winter storm system over southern california will move out of the rockies and across the plains Saturday then turn northeast toward iowa Saturday night. A mixed bag of weather is expected with the storm. There will be a chance for a mixture of freezing rain and sleet late Friday afternoon and especially Friday night into Saturday. At this time it appears likely that much of the area will see one quarter to one half inch of ice accretion by saturday afternoon.
The freezing rain will taper off during the afternoon Saturday. Then, colder air will move into the state Saturday night into Sunday with the next round of precipitation expected to fall as snow during that period. Six to twelve inches of new snow is possible over the watch area by Sunday afternoon. This will fall atop the ice from the first round from Friday night. Additionally, strong wind is expected Sunday which will cause blowing and drifting snow and may create hazardous conditions if the ice remains on trees and power lines. The watch has been extended through Sunday morning due to the expected slower movement of the storm.
A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
