Innocents Abroad

My friend and I are off to America on hols in a month or two...we are both single females and don't get abroad a lot as work tends to get in the way so are pretty inexperienced. :)

Pixies is becoming an extended family for me, and I would really appreciate any advice that you can give us on do's and don'ts while in Americal so that we have a great time but don't get into difficulties or upset anyone :)

Look forward to hearing from you
MissX

(Sadly I won't have MrX to look after me, so all the lovely females here will need to look out for him, you know make sure he's eating, exercising, getting enough mental stimulation that kind of thing!)

medic15 03-24-2002 05:29 PM

What do you plan on doing here, Im on the streets all the time soo let me know what your into and i can give you some advise.

MissX 03-24-2002 05:37 PM

General sight seeing and wandering, lots of wandering but as we are not with a group of people we want to keep safe and also don't want to cause offence unknowingly with things like tipping and stuff...any pointers gratefully accepted!

medic15 03-24-2002 05:46 PM

Well tipping and such...hmmmm

If your going to go to a big city in america be first of all prepared for rude people. They are few and far between but they can ruin your whole day. Tip when it seems appropriate, tip the guy that carries your luggage to your room, tip your waitress, tip your bar tender. But if you call for a Medic dont tip him its his job, you know that sort of stuff. Dont worry about offending anyone, if you meet americans as nice as me, they will be intrigued about your diffrence in vision, how your culture makes you unique. Most american men are very attracted to foriegn women, you all are so wonderfully different from what we see every day. Its like this plan to have fun, always go in groups of people, dont go into parts of town that seem bad, if they seem bad, it probably is bad. Most important of all dont let coming to another country keep you from having fun because its different, thats what makes everything fun! Let me know if you need specific info, I can get you phone numbers for city information, or let you know how to get free maps and stuff, just tell me and Ill post it here on the site. Hope I helped catch you later. Bye

Thanks for the advice Medic :)

I know my eyes are going to be as wide as saucers and my jaw hitting the ground at all the buildings and sites.. can't wait...

Miss X~ Is it asking too much to ask where in America you are going? Maybe some one here could give you specific advice then...... There are a lot of cultural differences from one part of this country to another. You may get a few ideas of places to visit that are far better than the typical tourist traps. Just an idea.......

MissX---Don't trust people unless you get to know them!Like anyplace;you would be suprised at the amount of people;that will
take advantage;if you are too trusting! Good Luck! Irish

MissX 03-25-2002 05:27 PM

Good idea Lilith, thanks, we are headed Louisiana/Mississippi. Irish - that's what Im afraid of, I'm bad enough being too trusting of people I know! :)

Lilith 03-25-2002 05:35 PM

Mississippi~ go to Biloxi and gamble !!!!Fun Fun Fun! Just do not get in the ocean/cesspool there!!!!!! YUCK!!!!

MissX 03-25-2002 05:50 PM

:) Thanks, I'll def remember not to go in the ocean!

scotzoidman 03-27-2002 12:32 AM

Lilith is correct - visited Gulfport/Biloxi some years back (before they legalized gambling), never thought living near a beach could be such a bad thing before that! But I think MissX will be pleasantly surprised at how polite people in the south can be, still, watch your back, there can be bad people anywhere... hiding behind that charming southern drawl ;)

Nice Guy 03-27-2002 11:19 AM

Unfortunantly that is to far away for me to be of any help. Hope you enjoy your time down there. If you or anybody else plans a trip to the Pacific Northwest send me a line and I'll tell you where to go and what to stay away from.

mindboxer505 03-27-2002 11:34 AM

think biloxi has an army base there..look out for the soldier boys....they are always on the prowl......

Lilith 03-27-2002 12:14 PM

Air Force~ training/ school base~been there done that~ nothing better than sexy soldiers right out of basic training and yearning to party...... Miss X I would def check that out!
