Rude, crude, and socially unacceptable
I am having a party tomorrow for all the people on my team at work and invited them to bring their main squeezes. This is where my problem starts. One of the ladies I work with has a boyfriend that is very sexually explicit in a come-on sort of way, especially with older women. Not in the cute flirty way but in the 'rubs the inside palm of your hand with his middle finger when you shake his hand, offers to stir your drink with his dick' kind of way. He is often completely inappropriate. The situation is complex becasue we are in general flirty, sassy, sexy talkers but he takes it that one step too far where you are left feeling like he just came all over your face in front of a crowd.
At my last party one older co-worker told him quietly to knock it off. He doesn't take a hint. I am wondering whether I should 1) speak to my friend- I fear she will get her feelings hurt if I crawl his ass first and I still have to work with her 2) Castrate him publicly 3) Take him outside and castrate him -which he may see as a come-on 4) Have a man take him to the side and tell him to knock it off- I fear a possible drunken brawl or 5) Ignore it and trust that my friends are big girls and can manage it themselves. Any other advice or alternatives? |

I would think that it's up to your coworker/his girlfriend to tell him that he needs to straighten up. People like that just make others' uncomfortable and no one will want to come to future parties if they know he's going to be there. If she doesn't have the audacity to tell him to clean up his act, then someone is going to have to throw down the towel and tell him to shut up or get out! If he still can't cut the crap, next time tell the office everyone's welcome to bring their spouses/significant other, EXCEPT her.
I'd be more apt to subject him to public humiliation, but that's just me and I've dealt with too many of those jerks. I'd let him know how unattractive his actions make him look. |

I lean towards Zoid's ^^^ thinking. He sounds like the type that would pay little attention to his girlfriend and could get an early attitude (either to push even further or sourer resentment) if it was whispered from the host. The best option may be to explain to a guy he 'gets along with' that some other less open people have been insulted in the past and while you want him and everybody to have a good time, you don't want him take the lead this time. Ask them to please mention to him it "early", at arrival. :shrug:

You speak to her quietly beforehand, explain how you feel. She probably knows what you mean, and feels all guilty and embarrassed when he behaves like that. She probably understands and would welcome you setting him straight and speaking your mind.
Or, she'd at lest know if it would cause trouble and have recommendations... |
