Attention, A New Colors Guardian Takes Over!
1 Attachment(s)
Yes, at the picnic on Saturday, the winner of the exciting word game contest became the new Guardian of the Sacred Colors or Colours if you're so inclined. Much thanks to PF for his addition of a new base. Now the colors show both National Flags (Australia, Canada, USA) from our Pixies get togethers and state or provincial flags. Absolutely beautiful. PF, you do have talent! The flag of the Northern Territories of Australia joins the flag of Ontario province and the states of Ohio, Michigan, Iowa and Illinois. A small plaque commerates the first get togeter held in Branson and hosted by SugarSprinkles; together with Pagan 06 at Niagara Falls, Ont. and now, PIP 07 in Peoria. This really is a work of art!!! It's worth the attendance just to see it ..... er ..... and the Pixies. :D
Attached is one picture ... the rest will be in the couples section of photo forums and, it is there that the new GUARDIAN will be revealed. Exciting ... right? :) |
That is very nice - and quite imaginative. Good job!

Nice job PF!

The Pixies Colors was not made to be seen from a single prospective, like the makeup of our membership, and one view does not show a total of what it is about. :) It is made to grow and develop with additions as time goes on with expansions and revisions. When the addition of state/province/region flags was added the first modification was needed (BUT was NOT suppose to be made by ME) I have a few pics while under construction that may give other views and the drawing of each component will be in the Guardian's care for reference for future additions.
The first pic is the new base that the country flag stand fits into and while wood working and finishing is NOT among my better abilities, it will accommodate 54 flags. Second is with the current nation flags of Australia, Canada and USA. I hope we will soon be adding Britain and maybe other European standards. The third pic is with the current state/province flags that have gathered for a Pixie event from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Northern Territory, Ohio and Ontario. (Pennsylvania BETTER be added soon!) Last is the confused assembly not suited for single pic viewing. ;) |
Excellent work PF......... how did you get those consistent angles for the holes for the state flags?
|
Great idea!!
If every Pixie attends at some time, how many country, state, province, flags will there be? |

I can't redeem myself from that word game, but I can read a scale and I can make you sorry you asked. So I'm going to answer it. :D LMAO As it stands now (pun intended ;) ) our Pixie Colors will accommodate 54 of the smaller region flags around the hexagon base and 8 national flags in the center. Being on 19/32" centers, they will be a bit crowded by then but I have faith others will have improved on the design. This addition to the colors was NOT suppose to be made so soon and I wasn't the one I figured on doing it. (that's will teach me to start something :banghead: ) To be presentable, the additional displays depended on the placement of the initial nation display. Last years start was based on the 12" x 18" flags that needed to tilt outward enough to make the center accessible and still keep the diagonal flag tip length above grade. On the standard 24" staff, that made the angle 20°. To keep the addition a reasonable size, the smaller 4" x 6" flags also need to be tilted with that diagonal also above grade. That angle is 45°, so to at least meet the base of the larger triangle line and extend outward, the minimum width of the plane had to be 5-3/8". That determined the hex size. Last year I made sketches of the circular base that would always allow equal spacing for any number of national flags up to 8. With a dividing head I layed out the part and made a simple centering fixture for the drilling. The center hole was drilled and tapped for the standard used by the trophy industry if an elevated centerpiece is ever added. |

The addition being a wood hexagon for athletics and minimum shipping weight, need special Australian wood worms to boar in a straight line, but since they do not cross the equator, I had to make a special drill fixture for the drilling.
We now have a base that can accept up to 18 event plates and an additional 6 nation flags if it becomes necessary. I'm sure other will be able to greatly improve on this beginning and truly look forward to seeing this evolve along with Pixies and the bond we experience at these gatherings. Sorry for some of the blurred pics, but they were taken in auto mode on a 6" tripod with a self timer only for my own records. The CAD drawings lost some crispness when converted to .jpg format, but you can get the idea. |

Good question. Not sure how many different countries, states and provinces there are represented at Pixies, but PF's design can accomodate all that are likely to attend any of these get togethers. And, while PF's being modest ... the new wood base needed to handle the state/provincial flags is beautiful and he's to be congratulated on a job VERY, VERY, VERY WELL DONE! |
(I'm happy DB impresses so easily, but I had to work a lot harder with that wood [especially the finishing :banghead:] than with a nice stable metal, to get a less perfect result. :o )

I did need very athletic wood worms but since they wouldn't come up-over to help, I wanted to just make it aesthetic and my spell checker didn't. :hair: |
Nope, it's not just DB who is impressed with your craftsmanship PF. You did an absolutely beautiful job my friend! :thumb:

WOW! WOW!!! WOWWIEEEE!!!!!!
PF, I also think the flag stand is fantastic!! And your explaination of how you made it was incredible!! But......... ummm........ that wasn't exactly what I asked.... DB kinda got it in his last reply....... I wanted to know Pixies membership....... How many countries, states, provinces are represented here at Pixies, so if a Pixie from each one attended a PAGAN event at some point...... How many flags would there be? We might need a second stand? :D |
