Weed Users

New findings

CunningLinguist 07-28-2007 05:48 PM

Oh no! It's reefer madness!

Oldfart 07-28-2007 09:33 PM

It's a long way to go till there is proof of this.

The higher risk of lip and throat cancer is probably more significant.

I'm concerned that the bullshit forces won't stop until they control any & all aspects of our lives.

Quote:
The researchers said they couldn't prove that marijuana use itself increases the risk of psychosis, a category of several disorders with schizophrenia being the most commonly known.

There could be something else about marijuana users, "like their tendency to use other drugs or certain personality traits, that could be causing the psychoses," Zammit said.

and yet...

Quote:
Dr. Wilson Compton, a senior scientist at the National Institute on Drug Abuse in Washington, called the study persuasive.

and...

Quote:
"We've reached the end of the road with these kinds of studies," said Dr. Robin Murray of King's College, who had no role in the Lancet study. "Experts are now agreed on the connection between cannabis and psychoses. What we need now is for 14-year-olds to know it."

There are folks getting govt $$$ to prove by any means possible something they've already concluded, despite any evidence to the contrary.

Clearly, some people subscribe to the philosophy in my sig below...the difference being that I express it with my usual dose of heavy sarcasm...

Fangtasia 07-28-2007 11:17 PM

I tend to agree that it causes some people problems...and unfortunately for those some people they wont know until they try it

jseal 07-29-2007 04:48 AM

Rather like Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth".

gekkogecko 07-29-2007 10:16 AM

I tend to be skeptical of any studies done on marijuana. Not necessarily outright rejecting the conclusions, but skeptical.

LixyChick 07-30-2007 04:48 AM

There's that "gateway drug" reference again!

My belief..."People who've never tried it (and never will) shouldn't do studies on it. They know not of what they speak!"

lakritze 07-30-2007 09:16 AM

Pot smoking is just another way to ahh ahh...oh shit,I forgot.

Thank you, Mr. Ashley Roachclip.

A Geneva study showed marijuana to be the least harmful psychotropic substance available, the results were supressed by the American press, controlled media indeed.

Mother's milk is a gateway drug, every heroin addict started with it.

Loulabelle 07-31-2007 03:30 AM

I hate to disagree, but anyone who thinks that inhaling the fumes of ANY burning substance, be it animal, vegetable or mineral can be anything but unhealthy is already in need of psychiatric help.

Who cares whether it's 'worse than alcohol' 'better than tobacco' 'the least harmful psychotropic substance' it still ISN'T healthy, so why the hell would you do it voluntarily?

If your life is that devoid of meaning or so full of pain that you need to use psychotropic drugs, spend the money you'd use buying them on some counselling.

And no, I'm not someone who gets drunk either.

wyndhy 07-31-2007 10:06 AM

drugs have been around for millennia. in fact, some anthropologists think that beer, because it is easily preserved and actually has many nutritious qualities, is what could have actually driven ancient people to begin cultivating grain and therefore becoming a society that puts down roots in one place long enough to warrant law, co-habitation, monogamy and civilized behavior, as opposed to roaming, warring hunter gatherers.

lou, i usually smoke weed and drink. i know it's unhealthy, but i don't particularly care. lots of things are unhealthy. i love fried chicken, but i'm not gonna stop enjoying it because it's bad for me. and my life is not full of pain or, most especially, devoid of meaning. i am a happy, well adjusted person who does not need counseling, who takes an active interest in my community and the lives of the people i love, and generally gets a kick out of my life and the people who touch it.

Sometimes we do things because they're fun. Not everything is an escape.
