Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Mrs OF and I went to see this tonight.

Lots of action, fun to watch, but not a kids pic.

IowaMan 07-11-2007 08:34 AM

I completely had forgotten that opens today here! Now that may be a bit of help to get me over my vacation hangover. :D

I doubt it but hey, may have to give it a go.

OF not for kids???? Please explain. You know my guys. They are going to be dying to see it. Should I say no?

Oldfart 07-11-2007 05:54 PM

Lil, yours will be fine.

The pic was not as dark as the book, but still a little confronting for the tender and suggestible, which is neither of yours.

Lilith 07-11-2007 07:40 PM

Ha ha. Not sure if that is a compliment or insult :D

They are currently debating who reads the fastest in order to decide the order in which they will get to read the ending book. Mr. Lil reads the slowest so he's last :p

****HERESY ALERT*****

If you cut the book into quarters, Then you can all read it in a third of the time.

I do not endorse any of the sentiments expressed in this post.

Ha ha! I have not even read book #1. I tried but it is not my thing. I know, I know, I'm a blasphemer.

IowaMan 07-13-2007 05:30 PM

I caught a matinee of it today. It was ok, just too much stuff in the book to squeeze into a two hour movie though.

Saw it yesterday...I agree with IowaMan. It was good, glad I saw it.

Now gimme that fucking Book #7!

I'll vote for it as a movie worth seeing. Might be a little rough for small fries, but for older kids, they'll enjoy it.

I disagree with IowaMan in that *all* of the books had way too much to squeeze into a movie. That's pretty mucht he nature of the book vs film media.

However, in translating to a different medium, the screenplay writers did a good job this time around: they cut a whole lot of what didn't drive the story, they wern't afraid to re-write things for the screenplay that needed re-writing, and when they did, they did stay true to the spirit of the story. In other words, they managed to tell the same story without trying to make it exactly the same as the book. You can't really do that with a movie.

Overall, I think this was the best of the series turned from book-to-movie.

IowaMan 07-17-2007 12:43 PM

Oh, I completely agree gg about the content of the other movies too but with this one there just seemed to be more things that were left out that if it was someone who was new to the Potter films/books, they may not have had a clue about many of the characters. And that's ok, their target audience wasn't people who haven't been following along with the story.

I enjoyed the movie a lot. Not really sure if it was my favorite one or not. I really did enjoy Goblet of Fire. Can't wait to see some of the scenes in Half-Blood Prince.

And yep, bring on that 7th book! :D
