Dreaming of Spring
Skipthisone used to love this time of year...when you get to map out what you hope to grow in the garden and in some places even start your seeds.
Got any grand plans for your graden this year??? I'm focusing primarily on flowers and herbs this year. I'll plant a trellis with cow peas, some tomatoes and peppers just to get me by but I am avoiding the aggravation of more. Although I have to say, with the drastic rise in grocery costs I am seriously wishing I had a greener thumb. |
I've already fertilized the irises and am cleaning the beds now for the upcoming shows. If the IRS doesn't take everything
:rolleyes2 I MIGHT actually get to have a garden again this year. |
I loved the pics of them last year CGT...I hope you'll post new ones this year.
|
Some of the gardenia bushes I planted last year have not survived so they will be replaced, with what I'm not sure yet. Then I have pots that need to be filled, last year I did begonias that grew from March to about November and looked wonderful the whole time... Since my house is going up for sale in about a month I won't be doing more than necessary to give it a nice drive up appeal.

Hell, I just hope I win somethin this year. The rules are stricter and tougher competition. :hair: |
My garden is still under 2 ft of snow. It is safe to plant here after the May long weekend - mid May. So I have not thought much about it yet.
|
Damn by the end of May my irises are just about finished blooming by then.
Our last killing frost date is April 15th. But we can plant cold weather crops now.(peas) And potatoes are always planted on St. Pattys day. :) |
I bought flowers to plant in a planter on my porch today, but was too cold to actually do it. I'm ready for spring!
|
I'd like to put in some stones around our front post light. Kind of frame the area in.
Also hope to get more flowers planted than last year. We added a trellis and I'd like to get some plants growing around it. |
I LOVE SPRING!! It is my very favorite time of year and I can't wait to get flowers and veggies started. I found some seeds about a month ago for "flower pot tomatoes" and I planted several; they all came up so I gave some away. I now have a cute little plant about 5 inches high in a big pot at work and I am loving watching it grow. I always have a garden with my mom and stepdad with cukes, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and whatever else strikes our fancy. As for flowers, my all time favorite is the impatient, although they need lots of water, they are beautiful and worth it!
|
I refuse to plant anything....because of water restrictions i can only water on Wed, Fri and Sunday....and then on those days only between certain hours....
New plants just cant survive and i'm not paying a fortune for a plant that odds are it will die |
Because I live in an apartment that doesn't get the right light AND the patio area has VERY STRICT restrictions on what can be on the patio... no plants for me .... but I take great joy that through most of the year flowers bloom here ... however in the spring the ice plants start to bloom and you get entire hillsides in the most vibrant purple, pink, white, etc .... it's gorgeous!
Oh yea, and one of the other big reasons skip liked spring .... got to see the sandles and toes of women! ... missing skip still! |
Those of us that live above 38° N latitude will come back to this thread at the end of next month. :( And all Pixies above 49° N latitude will look this up the end of the following month. :rolleyes2
