In Transit
The first transit of Venus since 1882 will occur on Tuesday; the next one will occur on June 6, 2012.
It will be seen best in Europe and Africa, but part of it will be visible on Eastern North America. If you are interested, check out the local Science Center or Planetarium. Good luck with the clouds! |
I wish I was in St. John's right now. They'll have telescopes on Signal Hill for viewings.
|
(I wish you were in St. John's too.)
OK.:) Since our UK Pixies have the best seat in the house, you have to gets your butts outside in about 2-1/2 hours. If your Captain Cook could take eight months to sail to Tahiti just to see it, I hope you can walk out to the back yard. ;) LOL Some of the better sites- http://www.vt-2004.org/ http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclip.../venus0412.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/space/...itofvenus.shtml |
It doesn't matter where I am, PF. Thanks to chat, IM, phones . . . I can annoy you from anywhere in the country, ya jerk!
|
You annoy me just by being!
(PS- you forgot the "SHADDUP PF!") |

TY jseal and PF! *hugs* |
Tidbit
Gentlefolk,
Nothing but clouds here. Bah! Streaming video saved the day. Sorta. While perusing webs sites in search of the best video, I came across an interesting animated gig: a Solar transit of the International Spaces Station. How about that? http://www.vt-2004.org/photos/image...oto-01-jolo.gif |
Very neat.:)
I assume the stationary dot is just a flair? |
Just as I said you shouldn't...because I am human, and when told NOT to do something, I do...I was walking up my driveway and could feel the sun beating on me as it was coming up over the trees...I turned and looked right into it for a mere moment...didn't see Venus, but saw a dot before my eyes for a minute or so after I finally turned away...so I named the dot "Venus baby"!
LOL! |
Next time you find me sitting on the lawn Lixy, watching the night sky, DON’T show me the moon. And I DON’T want you to hide the sky by standing over me and squatting down until my face is completely under your skirt. You definitely SHOULD NOT play with the Big Dipper until you see the Milky Way.
(I’ll be there right after sunset :lust: ) |
i saw our very own PashkinThePanther on the news last night during a story on the transit!!!!

I'm gonna get you for this, nikki! Ahem, I'm the president of the local amateur Astronomy society and we organised an event to show people the transit. The local TV station heard about it and called on Monday afternoon to ask if they could join us. Well I'd be crazy to say "no" wouldn't I? So come they did, arriving at 6am and leaving just after 8. The society secretary, myself, and couple of the committee were interviewed. Apparently the lunchtime news program did have me talking but they edited me out for the evening program. If I can get technology to work I might be able to download a copy of the segment off videotape onto a website but don't hold your breath! Meanwhile amuse yourselves with some of the pix taken during the morning, at www.heras.org.uk , checking out "Society Pics"... You're so dead now nikki! ;) |
