Bob Hope died today.
Just wanted to take a second to recognize the passing of a humanitarian and true patriot. Mr. hope spent decades bringing a little bit of home to troops all over the globe. He will be truly missed.

Nubian, thanks for the news. I hadn't yet heard that. Mr. Hope was truly one of a kind.

He was a great patriot, hilarious on the radio and TV and had a heart as big as the country. Rest in peace, Mr. Hope.

"Thanks for the Memories"

I saw Mister Hope in Viet Nam in 1967 and I have never forgotten what he did for us. He gave of himself and it really didn't matter to him who you were. It is a sad day for the world because we will be deprived of his humor.
God Bless Him and his and my heart felt condolences to his Family. sam |
I think there's something to be said for laughter being good for us... Bob Hope and many of the other great old comedians have lived long, fruitful lives and I believe it is because of their personality and willingness/ability to make others smile and laugh. Was glad to see him make it to 100.
He will be truly missed. |
He was a phenomenal person.... they don't make replacements for those.

Thanks for starting this thread, Nubian! Bob Hope was one of a kind and there will never be another like him.
My husband also saw him when he was stationed in Viet Nam in '68-'69. He has always been grateful for the little bit of 'home' that Bob Hope provided for all the service men and women. Just think.........he entertained our troops during 4 different conflicts.... WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Gulf War I. And it wasn't just one or two trips overseas to do this.....he went time after time after time. I would not hesitate to call him a National Hero. I believe his contributions to the American military men and women and our comrades in each conflict, and in turn to the Free World...he should be honored by the American Government. I would love to see the President order our flags flown at Half Staff and a National period of mourning be declared. It's the least we can do. If he's already done so, I haven't heard about it yet. I hope he has the guts to do it. |
Bob Hope was a man worth remembering. I had the privilege to meet him briefly once when he was on a USO tour. A really great man!
I remember when he visited Peoria and the Civic Center was new. At that time there was an adult theatre in a little town about 10 miles away called Delavan. His openning remark to the crowd at the Civic Center was, "It's great to be here in Peoria ... gateway to Delavan." The crowd roared! |
Sad day.
I never heard the news, thanks for letting us know Nubian |
I heard it when I got to work... and like many am completely saddened by the news...
As a vet, not only do I treasure his humor and talent but more importantly I will remember him for his patriotism and his love of country. For him, it wasn't about being a Republican, or a Democrat, it was about being an AMERICAN. Bob... Thanks for the memories. |
i only know of Bob Hope (Becuase of being English and young) from some songs and mentions by people but those mentions i have heard are full of praise! Fair play to the man! the military will truly miss him at the moment and forever i believe!
Also its about time we had some more people like him around the world is falling apart at the seems with people being to rightous Patriotism is dying! it needs to be revieved! Long live the memory of BOB! |
For a Brit (born in Eltham, England) he was a great American (his family moved to Ohio when he was six). :D
I have seen many of his movies, skits, and other performances (including taped broadcasts of his many wonderful USO perfromances) and they were all of the good kind of entertainment that this country so desperately needs more of. He will truly be missed. |
Bob Hope was indeed one of a kind. The mold was broken after him. The new young comedians, who come & go almost overnight, should look at Hope's material and see what it was he had that gave him such staying power.
Thanks for the memories...... We thank you so much ! |
Bob Hope has served as a shinig example of patriotism and humanitarianism. He has inspired many people to help their fellow man and support our troops. He will be missed!
