Geography

WITHOUT looking at a map, please answer.

If I am standing in Detroit and proceed due south, which foreign country do I first encounter?

kleclere 08-17-2012 09:13 PM

Wouldn't that be Canada?

Oldfart 08-17-2012 09:51 PM

Check it, but keep your answer to yourself till we get a fair guesslist, please.

Lilith 08-17-2012 09:55 PM

Cuba?

sodaklostsoul 08-17-2012 10:29 PM

South America

Lord Snow 08-17-2012 10:33 PM

Is this before or after my left turn at Albuquerque?

kleclere 08-17-2012 10:49 PM

Depends on which map you are using.

Oldfart 08-18-2012 03:02 AM

The one with "X marks the spot" is likely to be the least reliable.

Lilith 08-18-2012 06:37 AM

If it is you, the United States :p

Oldfart 08-18-2012 08:18 AM

Well picked, Lil, but sadly I've abandoned the Yankee shore for the Golden Sands of Oz.

lizzardbits 08-18-2012 08:19 PM

I guess a south American country like French Guiana or Ecuador. Now i will go look :)

lizzardbits 08-18-2012 08:27 PM

And now i know if i was correct or not. But im not saying if im right :p

scotzoidman 08-18-2012 08:54 PM

Per your request, I'm not going to give away the answer. But one of the previous answers is the correct one.

Lord Snow 08-22-2012 03:41 PM

It's Albuquerque isn't it? I knew it. LOL

Oldfart 08-22-2012 08:13 PM

Albuquerque is in NEW Mexico. Close, but no cigar.

Scarecrow 08-22-2012 10:36 PM

Cleveland????????????????????

Oldfart 08-23-2012 06:53 AM

No, Cleveland is neither foreign soil, nor New Mexico.

I'll go with that and add that it'll be the same with a 'forward march' or 'to the rear march'.

Oldfart 08-25-2012 08:40 AM

We won't even begin to canvass the most easterly part of the US.

scotzoidman 09-22-2012 11:17 PM

Windsor, Canada. Ford used to build V8's there (& may still for all I know)...

scotzoidman 09-22-2012 11:25 PM

While we're the topic, anyone with an interest in the quirks of US geography may want to check out How the States Got Their Shapes I think it would have been a better read if the states were listed in chronological rather than alphabetical order, but still worth the effort.

Nope, stick with the US.

Oldfart 09-24-2012 06:34 PM

OK, OK! It's Semisopochnoi Island in the Aleutian Islands.
