Best Pizza....

So..where do you think they make the best pizza in the world? I'm in Munich, and while I like schnitzel, I needed a break...so I bought some local pizza...it was pretty good...but I'd take an American Pizza right now...so I vote for Chicago deep dish.....

IowaMan 08-07-2007 03:12 PM

Hmmmm, not sure I can settle upon a single "best" pizza. Chicago deep dish is a pretty nice place to start though. My favorite place to get a pizza in the greatest city on Earth is Giordano's.

Deep dish isn't something I go for each time I want pizza though. I usually save it as sort of a treat kind of thing.

Got to say the best pizza I've had in years was a Chicago style but it was in Berkeley, California. A mushroom and spinach pie from Zachary's. :slurp: :faint:

Thanks to osuche for introducing me to that............... well, maybe I should say, "Damn her!" for introducing me to that since it's 2,000 miles away from me.

I guess my favorite pizza chain to go to would probably be Pizza Hut but more for their breadsticks than anything else. Papa John's is probably at the bottom of my list of favorites but I have no problem if that's all that is available.

northeast PA. it's rectangular, and the sauce is hardly spiced and herbed at all, just has that tomato flavor. the cheeses taste more like american, (but not quite) and less like mozzarella. the white pizza is a stuffed crust with just cheese and rosemary and olive oil. they hardly taste anything like pizzas you find in other places. at least i've never had pizza that tastes quite like it anywhere else. some of the local pizza place recipes are generations old and guarded like a medieval princess' virginity.

white or red, with or without onions is just fine.

I like a nice thin crust NY style pizza and the places here in CT are very inconsistent about that. There's not really a favorite place I have around here.

But then, I'm not a pizza cravin kind of guy. I'll enjoy it once in awhile but I don't go nuts for them.

That having been said, there's a place nearby the office that has a decent pepperoni pizza. What distinguishes it from the rest is that they overcook it so the pepperoni is a little bit burnt. I know...it sounds gross, but it winds up tasting pretty damn good and they must have fans cus they do it intentionally. lol

Any more it depends on what I'm in the mood for or what is around but back where I went to high school we had the best thin crust taco pizza at the bowling alley. Alas it burned a while back I heard. :(

We have a great place localy for Pizza called Fricano's. All they make is pizza with a very thin crust (any thinner and it would be a tortilla), one size fits all and your choice of 7 toppings. I can eat one pizza (sometime more) by myself there no problem and they are under $10.

In Seattle there's a place called Atlantic Street Pizza that is a top contender for the best I've ever had.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMellow Mushroom and a big salad with Esperanza dressing to go with it. I have two types of pizza I like- thin crust overcooked with burnt pepperoni as WI described (of course, that too) or a spinach, artichoke, basil, sundried tomato, feta on regular type crust.

We have another home in W.Melbourne FLA.When there,we love a place that
I think is called CiCi's or CeCe's.It's a buffet type of place. You pay a set price
& every time that they have another type ready, they announce what is ready. We like it because wether(sp?)you're hungry or not,you can eat as much as you want for one price. The price also includes refillable drinks & dessert.I wish that they had one(close)to here(NH)When in Fla ,we go there at least once a week.I'm from Conn & when growing up,I used to go to Tolli's
in E.Haven Conn. The owners came over from the "old" country & even made their own dough. They are probably dead by now,but their son might have kept the business going! Irish

Pizza Time Pizza here in my small town. There is a national Pizza Time chain but he isn't part of it and he had the name first so the chain can't make him change it. I work there on occasion when they're a man short or I just feel like I need a couple of extra bucks. I usually get Pepperoni Mushroom, but if I remember to bring in the feta it goes great with mushrooms.

Filippos Pizzeria. Thin or regular crust with any of a variety of extras. Been in Highlandtown for eons.

Sign of the times - they now charge for delivery. :(

I was a pizza delivery gal for about three years in the Rockies. Loved that job! The best pizza ever is a medium crust with onions concentrated on the outer parts, spinach concentrated in the middle and a good feta/mozza combo as the big base.

It was awesome to experiment with pizzas with their fancy ovens.

You know I don't even know the name of the place it's in the strip mall in between Home depot and Pathmark in Tom River NJ . Just checked map google and map quet there is no listing for it yet

Garners, right here in our fair town makes a fantastic thin crust pizza (we love the Supreme) and their Chicago style pizza is equally great. We basically have quit going to any of the other pizza places in the area.

IowaMan 08-09-2007 02:59 PM

Hey Jude30, when I lived in Lawrence there was this place called Pizza Shuttle. They were really cheap and had 2-fers on little 9-inch pizzas. I absolutely loved that place, do you know if it's still there?

Loulabelle 08-09-2007 03:08 PM

You haven't had pizza until you've had it in Italy.

Legend has it, it was invented as a convenience food to feed the workers who built Pompeii and I've eaten it there, so I'd have to say that was the best pizza I've ever had. Although, if truth be known I had Calzone.

dicksbro 08-09-2007 04:47 PM

Hmmm, I like Calzone. Good stuff. :) My wife and I help serve Saturday breakfast to folks on retreats and the specialty for that breakfast is always Calzone.

Er ... sorry about that. Okay ... back to the pizzas! :)
