Home Improvement

If you were given $5,000 that had to be used on home impovemants what would you do with it?

IowaMan 07-20-2007 11:44 AM

~ Refinish hardwood floors
~ Ceramic tile in kitchen & entryway
~ New tub/shower
~ new drapes
~ dishwasher

and if there was any left over I think maybe a stripper pole and stage for one of the living rooms. :D

I get new windows and build a storage building.

osuche 07-20-2007 11:51 AM

New windows and redesign my guest bath...which might cost more than $5K

WildIrish 07-20-2007 11:59 AM

I have the new hardwood flooring that I need to put down in the kitchen & dining room, but can't do it until after we replace the cabinets & countertops. So I'd buy those & install them myself. As much as I'd love granite tops, they wouldn't fit the feeling of our house at all so I'd have to consider something more country casual.

We still need some new windows installed before I finish replacing the siding with new cedar, but right now it's the kitchen that's making us nuts.

Since I just sold mine, I'd use it to either pay for the movers to the new house, or toward the downpayment on the new house. That counts, right?

maddy 07-20-2007 04:37 PM

Well, okay, so maybe I cheated. If I had not just sold my house ... new countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms and a new tub/shower surround thing.

Pita 07-20-2007 04:59 PM

Soundproof our bedroom so we can play with our whips and paddles without the neighbors hearing or grossing out the kid. :D

PantyFanatic 07-20-2007 05:08 PM

A concrete turnaround and reserved guest parking space for the pizza delivery man. :bite:

PantyFanatic 07-20-2007 05:12 PM

............. Or do you think $5k is enough to remodel the kitchen? I want to take out all the old appliances and install vending machines.

Oldfart 07-20-2007 07:17 PM

For $5K I'd fly a number of Pixies to Darwin to improve the look of my place.

jay-t 07-20-2007 09:33 PM

a lot of neat tools to fix the house with!! :) Yes honey I really do need a laser guided radial arm saw!

This is what I did with my 5 grand...

(actually it was more like 7 K+, & I wasn't really given that...the bank keeps insisting I pay them back sometime)

Lilith 07-20-2007 11:11 PM

Very nice! Pretty canna lilies too!

scotzoidman 07-20-2007 11:42 PM

I just realized, in one of the pics mrs zoid forgot a cardinal rule of photography, to watch for self reflections

You can also see the adaptors leading to the new rainbarrel...

Lilith 07-21-2007 12:00 AM

ha ha. But you can't make out the image...I've been trying :p

LixyChick 07-21-2007 09:46 AM

Great pics scotz! I have two large clay pots with canna in them on my back porch too! Damn...we have so much in common! *giggle*

$5000 huh? Mr Lixy could make one hell of a pool deck with that but I would want to be more practical. Enlarge the deck a bit and put in a hot tub...wooooooohoooooooo!

Scarecrow 07-21-2007 03:08 PM

Does a 60" Plasma TV count as home improvement

AS much as the would get used at your place I bet you could get the vending machines installed for free. They will want to find a time you are home once a month to restock them and collect thier money.
