Finding Nemo: What'd ya think, mates?
I just came home from watching the cartoon Finding Nemo. I know it will sound really stupid, but I thought of all my friends here at Pixies who live in Augustralia as I watched it, especially the last third or so of the movie. "Seeing" Sydney and hearing the accents and some of the words used that I associate with Australia just made me think of every one of you. It made it so much more enjoyable and brought me an extra smile. If I could, I'd have stopped by and given every one of you a big hug! LOL
If anyone has a chance to see it, I highly recommend it, even if you DON'T take a kid along with you to watch it (I saw it by myself). If you go, let me know if you liked it. :) |
I adored it but it touched something personal in me particularily. They was some thing I could identify with... I was *verklempt* a couple times. Oh the kids liked it too...even the way too cool for Disney stuff 12 year old :p I thought it was cute and there was more to the story lines than the trailers had led me to believe.

I agree, Lilith. My daughter asked me if it was as good as A Bug's Life, with all the clever lines and double meanings. I think A Bug's Life was better, but, like I said, I really did enjoy Finding Nemo, too.

We went on opening day and we all loved it. I can't wait for the DVD :D

Gotta say that altho I enjoyed it (as did my son) we both agree that it was good, but pales in comparison to Monster's Inc and all other Pixar movies. I was however very pleased that it offered such a positive father child storyline, sadly in our society such stories aren't depicted nearly enough.
Not sure if they are showing the same coming attractions in all theaters.. but one of the previews it showed here was the up and coming pixar movie scheduled for Nov 2004, The Invincibles... looks absolutely hysterical. :) Can't wait for that one... |

I'm sure I could think of some MUCH more enjoyable :fly: |
Hey, the surfer turtles rock!
|
I thought A Bug's life was really poor...
Finding Nemo was great for a disney movie |

:D <-----------Bilbo. I know you could! LOL :fly: |
I loved the surfer turtles, too! LOL
Oh, Tralis, I disagree about A Bug's Life. :) If you know very much about the insects represented in the movie, I think you'd find a lot of the lines hysterical and very clever. That's one reason I thought it was a better film for adults than for most kids, because a good bit of it would have been over the kids' heads. :bfly: |
We loved the movie. My wife and I had a "date" and went to see it. Absolutely delightful. BlueSwede, I think you're right that the story was more adult ... but the animations were fabulous. I'm sure the little ones would generally enjoy ... although ... and this is an aside ... the movie had hardly started when we heard a little guy (3 maybe) say to his mommy, "Mommy, this looks scary."
(PS Later we heard him laughing. :)) |
I'm glad that you and your wife enjoyed Finding Nemo, too. :) :fish: However, the movie I was referring to when I said it was geared more for adults than kids was not Finding Nemo but the movie A Bug's Life. I said that a lot of the lines in A Bug's Life would be over a kid's head or at least over the head of someone who doesn't know much about the kinds of insects that were in that movie. :bfly:

I havent seen it yet but have seen the early trailers not released here as yet.
I will make a judgement on the Aussie accents then. I can easily pick the fakes. |

Good! I'd like to hear an expert's opinion about the accents. :) |

I went to pixar.com to see the trailer but it says the title is The Incredibles. It does look very cute. My daughter is too young to go to the theater and sit still so I go alone and then we watch them at home when they come out! |
I watched the movie.... it is pretty good. Although I still like Monster's Inc over finding nemo. I never watched a bug's life yet... I think I should.
Although my all time favorite disney animated movie is still the lion king.... never forget the opening scene. And I am still waiting for the DVD to come out. If you are interested, I highly recommend Spirited Away. It is a japanese cartoon brought into US by disney. It is far more complex far deeper than most American cartoons. And I would suggest get the DVD and use the original Japanese version and turn on your subtitiles. The feels is far more realistic and great music too. |
Thanks for the suggestion, Eric. I'll look for it. One thing I liked about this cartoon (Finding Nemo) also was that it showed a father in a positive light and being responsible.
You know, Bambi was rather radical for its time and in that sense complex. It was rare to be so blatant about hunting and being concerned about the environment. Plus, the father played somewhat of a role in it, too. I haven't watched any or very few Japanese cartoons. Are they usually more complex because they are geared to a more adult audience rather than just children, as American cartoons are most of the time? |
I took my two year old to watch Nemo and she loved it! Though she is going to drive me crazy intill it comes out on dvd, lol. She can't understand why we can't watch it when she wants to here at the house.

I agree with you blueswede. I enjoy the positive showing of the father in the movie too. That is why I like the lion king so much. A father will take care of his son and even die for him. And the young boy finally realize that someday he is following his father's foodstep too.
I still love bambi, until today I can never hunt any animal. Credit that to bambi. It still have an enormous impact on me. I agree that most Japanese animated movie are targetting the whole audiences, not just kids. That is why their storylines and meaning usually have to be deeper, more complex. Actually, the more recent American cartoons seems to target more and more adult audiences as well as children. I like the direction of what they are going. |

:D <-----------------Midnight Kiss Midnight Kiss, you have my sympathy! I've been down that road, too! :) |
erc25, I know what you mean about Bambi. If I've seen that film once, I've seen it more than 100 times. When our VHS version is playing, I STILL have to leave the room when Bambi's mother gets shot. Otherwise, I better have a box of tissues handy.
