Last day of retail hell............is it over yet?

I'm behind perving Pixies, I'm behind on emails, I'm behind wrapping gifts, I keep telling myself it will all work out no matter what all I'm behind on, I'm gonna enjoy the next 2 days if it kills me and then go back to retail hell at 6am on the 26th.

1. I'm having a lot of trouble getting into the mood for the holidays so today I decided to stop trying. I turned on my fave alt. rock music to finish baking by. I decided to go ahead and miss the people who are not with me. I am accepting that my kids got outside gifts (bikes,skateboards,scooters) and there is a 90% chance of rain Monday.

2. My oldest is helping me with the cookies and it's one of the few things he will tolerate me for at his age. I've made 6 kinds and I'm scrambling to find more to make so I can keep him near for even just a few more batches.

3. My new haircut was a mistake.

1. I'm sitting on the floor of an airport, surfing off of free wireless, and presently realizing just how hard concrete floors are.

2. Like Lil I'm struggling to catch the spirit, I have moments, but that's just it, they literally are moments.

3. I really need some snow to lift my mood - its 12/23, I'm in the Northeast and we haven't seen snow, well since last winter. Today, for our celebration of Festivus, we are greeted with rain and well rain.

* One of my best friends is bringing his new girlfriend over tonight so I can meet her. :)

* Got to do a bunch of cleaning here at the house to make it at least appear that I'm not a complete slob before they get here. :yikes:

* No idea at all what I'll cook them for dinner. He told me that he's bragged to her that I'm a really good cook so I guess a frozen pizza is out of the question. :rofl:

1. Maybe IowaMan should go pick up one of those frozen dinners he was bragging about from Sam's Club. :)

2. I've been here at work in a VERY quiet office for an hour and have only done personal crap instead of trying to tackle the pile on my desk. ;)

3. I wish it would snow. I woke up to rain, rain, rain this morning...which promptly lulled me back to dreamland. :D

You know, I was really thinking about doing that IAKG, I've already got one in the freezer. Just talked with my friend though and they won't be able to make it tonight. His lady friend is a little under the weather I guess. My best guess is that means horny and they'll spend their evening having a lot more fun than they would've over here. :rofl:

- I'm not really feeling the holiday. Not being a total Scrooge or anything, but everyone else around me is able to enjoy things I can't right now, mostly because of time, space and money. Tourists and crowds are annoying me, holiday marketing is already overkill, getting sick sucks, having to work extra pisses me off and I have to make sure I meet rent at the end of the month...so I can't go crazy like I'd like to...now, I appreciate what's going good for me and all that, but I'll appreciate it more after January 2nd when everything's come back down to eye level and days are just "days" instead of "events."

- Meeting old coworkers who came into town later tonight for drinks...I love these guys, but for the reasons above, I'm not going to get into it as much as I would've if things were different. Plus, they chose to meet at the company watering hole in Midtown, where everything is fucking expensive. If I were still two days into my sickness I could've signed out of it.

- I sound like I'm a total grouch, but all I really want/need is some space away from the negative-generating energies...until I brush some dirt off my shoulder and can enjoy some time out in the places I enjoy like I like it.

1. I am wearing one of my Christmas presents, and it sparkles.

2. I am operating on little sleep. Not a good idea to see the 10:00 movie on a night you have to be at work the next morning, especially if said movie ends up being about 2-1/2 hours long.

3. I want to go home. No one here is working except me, anyway. :)

1- Doing some general file cleaning and computer maintenance, I managed to delete a few hundred OS root directory files. :yikes:
(actually I did that last night)
The next few hour of stark fucking terror was spent trying to find a way to boot my computer. :fix:

2- Today I carried my HD to my computer at work and installed it as a slave drive to possibly gain access to some of my data. :wobbly:

3- The gods smiled on me. :D

1. I just found out that there is "instant" cider. Add hot water and stir.

2. I'm glad I got Ryan the x-mas present he really wanted. There is nothing better than seeing such a huge smile.

I made Ppts for all my reading groups to use to assist in word attack and vocabulary skills for each week's lessons. I now have 5 computers set up in my classroom and intend to make it a very techno savy place.

1. I am in awe of Lil's teaching skills.

2. My daughter sounds so grown up when I talk to her on the phone.

3. I got to tell my "how did you meet" story again today, and it never fails to make me beam.

* Need to do a quick clean up of the house so I don't have to do it after I get back after a short time away from here.

* Mega laundry day today.

* Buying my final Christmas gift today. Love it when I get the couple extra days because of not giving the gift until New Year's.

1. It's going to be 65 when I step off a plane on Saturday. Yeah, I can handle that kind of weather at the end of December.

2. I can't wait to get my new luggage--it should be delivered Friday. That cool stuff with the "spinner" wheels. (Yes, I'm easily amused...)

3. I'm going to send a somewhat-nasty email this morning and see what kind of reaction I get.

I need to do some soul searching and figure out how I am going to
approach a situation.

I had dinner (and too much wine)with old friends. I miss the old days when our kids were little and we had time to just visit.

My friend picked the strangest scarf I made to take with her on her trip to NYC.

1) Never, ever, EVER eat noodle soup with chili oil sauce and then rub your eye. You'll be sorry. Trust me.

2) Can't wait to get out of work today. Work on Saturdays is annoying. Then after I get outta work, Saturdays turn into adult comic & erotica book buyin' day. It feels so much better to be around creativity and it's well worth waiting thru the usual grind.

3) I have a new flatscreen monitor at work and it's delicious. Prior to that I was working on an older standard, "TV" sized monitor. I didn't think my cheapo company would bring our department up out of the dark ages, but they did. The newly reclaimed desktop real estate is like a breath of fresh air.

Dude, it's not the soup! Don't ever blame the noodles!

I enjoyed my lazy day off for the most part. Wish it lasted a bit longer.

Today is a short day at work.

1- We started a new module in school last night and it's clearly going to be more challenging than the previous module.

2- I'm far too competitive and am not happy about being tied for first place at school. Although I was happy to find out that my final had been mis-graded and I ended up with 148 right out of 150, I wish I had done better. :shrug:

3- Tomorrow night is date night as well as our last kid-less night, so I've got some definite ideas :brows:

1.) Today has been a pretty quiet day for me, which I needed it.

2.) Looks like my night will be that way as well.

3.) It feels great to be the best mom in the world. So my daughter says. :)
