You're invited as well. I want us ALL to have a good time. :)

I want to not be the bearer of sad tidings, AZRH, but they're advertising a version of Holmes called "Elementary" in which Watson is an asian woman.

AZRedHot 07-18-2012 11:58 AM

I've checked out the preview, and I'll probably check it out when it comes on. It doesn't look terrible, and I always like the Holmes/Watson dynamic, in whatever form. I liked the new Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

What I don't like, however, is how both modern versions seem to pathologize Holmes, as if he's some kind of mentally ill savant. That was never the impression I got from Conan Doyle (I read the complete works), or from Laurie R. King, whose rendering of Holmes has always been, in my opinion, very faithful to the original. Holmes is an eccentric genius who doesn't feel the need to explain himself to what he perceives as his inferiors, or to suffer fools. Indeed, that's probably what I always liked about him. I'm terribly fond of brilliance, even if it's fictional. He never came across to me as damaged. Sure, he had a drug problem at one point, but he'd recovered from that to live a productive life, as many do. The focus on that aspect in both modern versions I suppose makes him more colorful, but if you've read the originals, it wasn't an aspect that came up in every single story.

I've always thought that Holmes was a little strange, an extremely highly functional autistic, as was Mycroft.

No, but it may be bad if you had ice-cream at 7.39 am, unless you had it on a very healthy cereal.

Lord Snow 08-01-2012 03:19 PM

Actually I like taking a cantaloupe, cutting it in half, carving out the seeds, and adding a scoop or three of vanilla ice cream when it's for breakfast. You put bananas on cereal.

Lilith 08-01-2012 03:34 PM

hmmmm bananas are for peanut butter and fluffer nutter grilled sammiches

dicksbro 08-02-2012 05:01 AM

All that talk about ice cream and bananas is getting me in the mood ...

... and it's only 5AM. :yikes:

Oldfart 08-02-2012 09:00 AM

Sorry, I thought you said nude.

kleclere 08-02-2012 04:24 PM

A nice banana split would be good about now.

sodaklostsoul 08-08-2012 04:23 PM

A nap.

kleclere 08-08-2012 04:45 PM

To be loved.
