Damn straight DB! This'll be the biggest fight I've ever had, no doubt, but you and I, with love and best wishes from our real & cyber friends (and a wee bit of help from somewhere's else) will win out.

Many thanks to all who've written here, or PM'd - too many to thank individually, but you all know who you are.

I'll certainly do my best Smithy - thanks, man!

Well, an update - saw my surgeon and the cancer specialist this morning. They reckon that Chemotherapy, followed by combination Chemo/Radio therapy is the way to go. This will all be done at the Beatson in Glasgow (Smithy and some others will probably know of it) and the whole thing kicks-off on the 22nd.

I have to have a few preliminary things carried out prior to the actual therapy commencing, including having a mask made (to cover my ugly mug!!), so not sure exactly when the Chemo start-date is - but certainly by the end of the month.

On the positive side; both Doc's seem to think that with a mere smidgin of good fortune, the tumour(s) will be killed off, and in the fullness of time, I'll be back to the awkward, obnoxious gitI am now.

On the negative side; well, it hasn't improved my typing skills one iota! :)

P.S. DB - I hope this mutual-praying gig doesn't cancel itself out!!

It doesn't. Cause there many more prayers being said than you even know about.

BTW- I just signed both of your petitions. You can ask Wyndhy what that means.

Got my treatment schedule through today. I have to get a plastic face-mask made on 8th July, a CT "simulation the day after, then radiotherapy starts on 5th August ~ 5 days a week until the end of September.

Oh joy!!

wyndhy 06-11-2009 05:50 PM

a little fyi (if you don't want any just tell me to stuff it) the burn didn't get bad for me until the last week (week 5) and the worst pain was AFTER treatment was over, about a week and half later.

are you going to lose your sense of taste?

Lilith 06-11-2009 08:39 PM

Will the burns be outside or inside? I recently took this medicine, carafate. It's to help lesions and ulcers to heal. It completely coats things. Can you be given something like that to coat your mouth and throat after treatments?

The info sheets, and the specialist nurse, both say exactly that - the pain is worse after the treatment, as are with the side-effects too! Looking at the schedule, it's 6 1/2 weeks of radiotherapy - haven't got the Chemo schedule yet.

Both, apparently. Again, the info tells me I have to shave all my fcial hair to have the mask made (I've had my moustache since I was 17, so that'll be really weird!!) and to buy an electric shaver tominimise the aggro to my skin.
Happy days - haven't used one of them since....... well, I don't know when!

Abso-fuckin-lutely, Scotz.

Me and DB both.

txgrneyes 07-11-2009 11:37 PM

OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG.....How did I miss this.

You are both in my prayers. If it would help I would hold my breath until you both beat this, but then I believe I would pass out and hopefully my body would start again....so that wont help anyone. So the most I can do is the prayers.

I know that you can beat this. The only advise is live like there is no tommorrow...tell everyone what you think today....and most of all know that you are loved. (by me too).

Is there anything I can do?

I'm finding threads to do with the Big C still difficult to deal with.....please dont think my absence in here (or any others) means you arent in my thoughts & prayers.

dm383 07-12-2009 02:31 AM

Nat ~ partly my fault I think, for not updating it like I said I would. I will do that in a minute....... btw, prayers are good - thank you!

Fangtasia ~ no worries darlin'; and thanks for the thoughts!
