Always been forthcoming about my limited experience...one g/f I had sex with before marriage, & been sleeping with only one woman since the Nixon administration...

It seems to me that if you have to lie about it that's an indication that you are likely mismatched with your partner.

Personally--there's only been one woman. I've known her for 20 years (although the first months of this were not romantic), we've been married for 17.

Oldfart 12-25-2005 06:17 AM

If you've ever lied, is it because you're ashamed to have had so few or so many sexual partners? No.

Are men still under the false impression that they HAVE to have had loads of women to be thought of as 'normal'? No, we just like the idea of having sex with a lot of women.

osuche 12-25-2005 01:04 PM

I've never lied to a partner/lover about how many people I've had sex with. I feel that they have the right to know the truth...and if I had a problem telling them, I shouldn't sleep with them. But of course (with one possible exception) I have sex with friends...people who I really liked and respected.

I have lied to friends...mostly with a lower number. It's none of their damn business IMHO. If they have the bad taste to ask, I often tell them what I expect they want to hear.

Loulabelle 12-27-2005 08:38 AM

I definitely think there's more temptation to lie to our same gender friends than to members of the opposite sex, as you say, Osuche.

We definitely judge our own sex more harshly and are more concerned about how we compare to them than how we compare to our counterparts.

The question is, do our peers put this pressure on us or do we put it on ourselves? If, for example, those of you who have lied about such things were to tell the truth about how many sexual partners you've had, perhaps your friends would breathe a sigh of relief and anounce that they too have had more or less partners than originally stated. Or, like here at Pixies, would the response simply be 'Hey ho, some people have had more partners than others.'?

And does it really make much difference what we say anyway? I have never been promiscuous, but in my circle of friends its widely known that I love sex and am happy to talk about it and be flirtatious with members of both sexes. For this reason, people often perceive me to be promiscuous and are happy to tease and joke with me about it. For my own part, it doesn't offend me that people have this perception of me, since they neither like or dislike me more because of it. I know that I'm living up to my own personal standards. That's all that matters to me, and also, it seems it's all that matters to those around me too.

Perhaps it's time we gave our peers the benefit of the doubt; they may well be less judgemental than we expect.

Some of my friends I'm honest with -- the ones who seem to have like views on sex and relationships. :) But...I also have friends who are prudes. Those friends I act differently around because I think my more sexual nature would make them uncomfortable. Maybe I am incorrect, but I find that people tend to gravitate towards others with like personalities...so I adapt.

rabbit 12-27-2005 01:26 PM

Yes, me too. Depends on who I am with but most of my friends are just too conservative to get into sexual discussions with...they'd be really uncomfortable.

you make a good point Lou.. But here's one for ya.. I myself am 20 years old. most of the women i've been with are relatively close to that age themselves. Alot of the females on this forum are (thinking of the best way to word this without being decapitated) hmmm above 25? lets say hehe.. Anyways but personally I think the older generation grew up in a time where As you said, They didnt sleep with many guys. or gals. And didnt feel a need too.

My generation or around it.. Totally fucking idiots.. some of the girls I've known ohh my god.. hell they can't go a day without at least 1 or 2 different guys. EVERYDAY. I'm quite serious.. So ladies. And gentlemen of the older generation pls. if you have a son or daughter soon coming of the age. Please try to talk some sense into them. Personally I think its all the bullshit on tv.. will someone explain to me what the purpose for shows like Nip/Tuck. or all those reality shows like the Island.. or Gauntlet. inferno is another one.. I mean holy fuck. they put these people on these shows just so they can completely and utterly twist up their emotional lives and hopefully it'll melt down on national tv.. and nip/tuck.. well that show's just not right in the least..

before they end up using that thing till its worn out..

Loulabelle 12-28-2005 03:39 AM

Well I'm 27 and I'd hardly call myself a different generation hun!

I grew up with words of advice from my mother such as 'you can't get pregnant from swallowing' and 'never get sperm in your eye' so I can hardly say that my reason for being fussy is something to do with a strict upbringing!

Incidentally, if you think they're idiots for behaving the way they do, why don't you distance yourself from that? Just because you're a certain age and are born of a certain generation, doesn't mean you have to behave the way everyone else does.

txgrneyes 12-28-2005 03:04 PM

A long time ago ( back in my teenage years) I might have. But now....NO.

If asked I just say "enough to make me know what I like and dont like about sex". That usually does it. If nothing else it changes the question to "so what do you like or dont like about sex".
But most of the people I consider sleeping with are well above numbers. We all know we have had partners in our lives and as long as we are doin what we like...then so be it. Besides I like the more open minded crowd better, they aren't so much as the simple how many partners have you had type of resume. But during the "foreplay" time which can be from the time I meet them to years of flirting I usually have gotten that information well ahead of time.

Sorry to ramble on...but that is just me

Well, I guess I'm a different generation at the ripe old age of 32? I was never influenced by television but I've had my moments of promiscuity. I don't feel the need to apologize for the fact that I've been with a lot of guys. I played the field & learned a lot. I'm a sensual being who enjoys sex & practiced it safely.

I'm guessing if the people you know are sleeping with more than one person a day, they've got other issues besides their choice of television programming. Also, I find it interesting that you mention the women who are sleeping with many guys. Surely all these guys they're sleeping with aren't virgins.

Myst 01-07-2006 10:01 AM

I'm 25, so I don't think I'm of a different generation than a guy who is only 5 years younger than me. I've slept with a total of 2 guys, one of whom is my husband. And the only people I've lied to about that number is my family, who don't know about my experiences with my high school sweetheart, whom I dated for over 2 years before I met my husband.

If the girls you know are as promiscuous as you say, and you don't like it, find different girls to hang out with. It's your choice of friends that is causing your all-too-cynical view of women, not the women themselves...as I can attest, not all women of this generation are like the ones you ranted about.
