Scotz, that severely sucks. Unfortunately there is always someone in the family that no matter what the situation, it's all them. I agree though, keep an eye on your wife since there is no telling when she might "break". Hope it all works out though.

Alas, it did exactly. She was the first one in - I was forced to take a closer look because 911 op insisted on knowing if he was breathing. Hell, dried blood all over, that unmistakable smell of death in the house (pretty sure he'd been dead since early morning.

SIL might get a pass if this was her first offense, but it was just the latest installment of her ongoing soap opera. Covering all her crimes & misdemeanors of the last couple years would take more time to describe than I've got.

I do appreciate everyone's best wishes, & as for the wife possibly breaking down at some point...I really feel that she's got a sense of closure now, in a troubled relationship with both her parents; she's got over 50 yrs of practice in this game, & for over 36 of those years, I've gotten pretty good at helping her pick up the pieces when she does crack.

She had visited him the day before, & for all the hard feelings that came out, when she left him they were laughing & joking with each other, even making plans for us to bring #2 son over to clean his gutters. She's OK with the knowledge that he's at peace now, all the demons that made him such a bastard can't get at him now. And that's enough for me to be OK as well.

At least there is the closure of their last encounter ending on a happy note. Just let us know if you need support as well.

It was almost midnight when I made it home from the Ben Folds show (which was great), and then I was reading, this. It's a really good book.
