Male television viewers do not take in the news when it is delivered by an attractive female newscaster, according to a new survey.
Researchers checked the attention levels of 1,500 male Italian viewers during news programmes and discovered it changed in relation to the attractiveness of the newscaster.
Nearly three-quarters failed to remember anything at all from the first 30 seconds of broadcast as they tended to concentrate instead on the newsreader.
The study, by the European Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Society in Rome, found attention levels went back to normal after the second minute of broadcast, reports Tgcom website.
But researchers found that 72% could remember the full story if the newscaster was not attractive and didn't wear make up.
Only 40% remembered the story when the newscaster was attractive. Some 58% of those who couldn't remember said they'd been captivated by the newsreaders' lips.
