Read this off-beat news story about scantily-clad women sellling betelnut in Taiwan, then sent the URL to LIlith. She's posted it on the sex news forum, if you wish to read what I'm talking about. The real question, however, comes from a quote at the end of it:

"As to whether the girls hurt our national image, I know there are nudist camps in the United States and in other countries. I don't know if people will view the United States as an erotic country."

So, yeah. Is the US an erotic country? We do indeed have nudists camps, swingers groups, singles bars and the like which would say yes. Or, is the sexual repression of the Christain right still too prevalent?

How do people both in the US and abroad see us?

The US is definatly not an erotic country, but neither is Puerto Rico...(No offense Sharni, but Puerto Rico isnt a country it is a property of the US), I always think of European countries when i think of erotic.

I have been to Taiwan and have seen the "scantily clad women selling the betelnut" and believe me for the most part they are DEFINITELY NOT erotic!! Most of them are down right ugly! Scantily clad....yes but their heads look like they were plucked right off of a grubworm! The betelnut was pretty good though! The US is big enough that part of it are erotic. Depends on the time too. Ever been to Mardis Gras? That could be classified as erotic on some nights and other times just a wild time.

U.S.A. isn't realy erotic after all, all we have is a limp dick (Florida).
Maybe it's because the the hand (Michigan) is so far away maybe if Michigan moved down by Florida we might have a little excitment.
But then again maybe the U.S.A. has just got finished and the keys are drops left over

ok enough joking around

I'm not sure if a country can be erotic tyhe people that live there can be view as erotic in that case as a whole U.S.A. isn't erotic but there are places that are.

I don't think the US has an erotic 'image', as a country. As a foreigner who hasn't visited the country, the way it comes across to me, is a little bit prudish and somewhat self righteous. The US puts across a 'clean cut cheer-leader' type image which betrays the pulsing passion which throbs beneath its somewhat anti-septic exterior.

As for my own green and pleasant land, I'd say sexual: yes, erotic: no. We are always in there first with the smutty jokes and the dirty gossip (just look at our tabloid press) but haven't the faintest clue, as a collective, about sensuality, eroticism and the art of love.

And here is the disclaimer: these are my perceptions of these two great Nations based on the images they portray to the rest of the world. The true nature of the individuals who live there are more likely than not, very different from the external image we see. So please don't be offended, Pixie-people!x

France and erotic country? Sorry - I just fell off my stool. Try visiting a supermarket to buy common or garden deordorant. They seem to have the smallest allocation of shelf space in Europe. OK, OK - there's some sexy French women. But there's also a whole lot that you wouldn't want to get close to. Surprising in a modern Western country.

The great thing about the US is that it is BIG and whatever you want is out there somewhere. Hollywood TV dominates the world and has a strict 'no nipples' policy. Cultural Imperialism because I LIKE nipples and am not allowed to see them on bland one-size-fits-all US exported programs. But on the other hand, where are all the most professional, sexiest blue movies come from?

Most erotic country? It is certainly easy to have fun in Indonesia and Thailand, so they should be near the top of the list. But how about Holland? A lot of those conservative Dutch couples are member of sex clubs that would make your tongue hang out (and other things).

I have to agree with Skip.................the US has a lot of issues that need to be addressed/undressed. I believe my time in Europe was ideally the most Erotic. Oh yeah Steph.............France is very high on the list. Spain was my Favorite though. I just think that we here in America put too much Mystique in Sex.
