A Lixychick inspired thread....

Tell me about things you have fixed around the house with just something you found around...you know not the right thing...like using gum as glue or something like that..

I got in trouble for mine, a spring came off my back door and I was cooking somethign out on the grill and didnt have time to fix it so i just stuck a fork in the slot to hold it...never use the SO's good cutlery for fixits........

Our remote control kept falling apart and it had about 145 rolls of scotch tape on it. A new universal remote costs like 10 bucks but we kept putting more tape on it. It was like this dirty, disgusting cloudy thing when we finally got a new one.

On a tour with two friends to Denmark in an old Volkswagen Bus we lost a part of the exhaust. I had to connect a tube to a pot, but the hole in the pot was double the size of the tube, and there was a distance of around 2cm between tube and pot.
On the floor I found a clamp, in a stack of trash I found some copper wire, at a near garage I bought an exhaust repair set (glassfiber sheets and clay) and for having some material we used sheet metal that we cut from sausage cans. For cutting the cans we used the scissors of a pocket knife and of the first aid box.
I bent one sheet as a lengthening of the tube and fixed it with the clamp. Another sheet with a hole of the size of the tube was used for closing the big hole in the pot, all that fixed with the copper wire, sealed with the repair set.
It worked perfectly, but cost halve a night for doing the repair. I still can feel the dirt and oxide in my eyes....

I have a friend who we call the Queen of Duct Tape.. she can rig anything LOL well when we were still teens we were out in her Moms old Dodge Dart (POS car from hell) needless to say we were not where we were supposed to be :D and the bracket at the back of the muffler fell off and the muffler was dragging we couldn't call home for help without getting killed and couldn't drive all the way home like that ... so she took the purse strap off her sisters brand new purse and hitched up the muffler. It smelled like hell but we made it home!!!!

I had a muffler pop loose once, on my Chevyvan, loaded with band equipment, in the middle of nowhere near the KY/TN state line...not up to making an actual repair, but I couldn't just let it drag to the next repair shop God-knows-where...found a wire clothes hanger & a pair of pliers, soon rolling down the road making one HELL of a noise, but no shower of sparks anymore...when I got to a garage, got lots of laughs from these old countryboy mechanics about my "bailin' wire" repair job...

I always carry a small leatherman pliers set, and it's amazing

how often it's a godsend.

I was driving along and suddenly the brake pedal went very soft... pulled over and found a healthy new leak in the brake line (rust)... so there I was in the middle of nowhere.... using a handy dandy set of vice grips (don't leave home without them) I cut the line by the leak and folded it back on itself 4 or 5 times to be able to get pressure back into the other three brakes.

Yeah, I was shy a good deal of braking power... but I was able to get home safely.

We were on a motorcycle ride with friends when the bike in front of me spat its muffler off....it proceeded to bounce in front of me and then straight at me...i ducked while hitting the anchors..side stand down and raced back and picked it up (DUH...hint: dont pick up a muffler thats been on a bike for the last 3 hrs)
I juggled it back to its owner.....we pinched a bit of a farmers fence to hold it back on.....and i think it's still that way to this day *L*

Geeezzzzzzz........I feel so bad skip! I've inspired a thread that I have no real contribution to. Hmmmmmmm.....I might need a spanking!

OK, wait!...I got one.....Whew! Oh like who hasn't done this?

(And no response from the "I'm not old enough to remember 45's club!)

When you would play the 45's on the turntable (I'm warning you, shaddup all you young uns out there!) and they skipped because of a scratch in it.........I would tape a penny to the arm to help it over the skip!

OK.....I know.....This was lame! But if I think of anything....I'll get back to you.

Oh wait.........Does making a pipe out of the toilet paper roll count? Or rolling papers from a tampon paper? One can be pretty innovative with the inspiration of pot and nothing to smoke it in.

OK.....I'm going now..........LOL!

I carried a friend home after school one day. In his drive there was a concrete slab that was about 4 inches high. He told me to watch it, but it was too late. As he got out, he saw that there was something leaking. My oil pan was busted. Being the redneck that I am, I found......what else.....the redneck's best friend......DUCT TAPE! I taped the gaping hole in the oil pan with about 15 layers of tape, filled the thing with oil, and headed for home. I managed to make it around 20 miles to a road that my cousin lived on before the oil light came on. I pulled over and popped the hood, and another friend of mine popped the hood, and the dumbass removed the oil cap to pour in oil. Oil covered the engine and started a fire. Luckily we got it out, and I managed to get the car to my cousin's where I called my dad to come pull me in to the house.
