or just finished?

I am reading 2 books at once at the moment. LOL. A Thin Dark Line by Tami Hoag, kind of a mystery-romance book...pretty good so far, just a slow read.....

and The Confident Woman by Marjorie Hansen Shaevitz...good book, kind of self-help but not in the talking down kind of way.

What's on your nightstand to read????

Thanks, Skip

This is my 100th post <looking around for balloons and fanfare> LOL!

You are not a nerd by reading 2 books at once, i do it all the time.

John Irving wrote "The World According to Garp" and "Hotel New Hampshire", if I am not mistaken, right?

I remember taking Hotel New Hampshire out of the public library and having the librarian act like i was doing something illegal. I was 16 at the time, but looked younger......ahhh, to have that happen again!! LOL

<I did get proofed last time I went out tho>

First of all Roxanne, absolutely terrific thread! A woman after my own heart. :D If reading two books at a time makes someone a nerd, I wonder what I must be since it's always two at once, if not more, for moi.

Right now I'm reading "When Christ and His Saints Slept" by Sharon Kay Penman...it's a historical fiction about England's past Queen Maude..

And "The Ill-Made Mute: The Bitterbynde Book I" by Cecilia Dart-Thornton....fantasy novel(my particular weakness).

John Iriving has written scads of wonderful books, the best of which(in my opinion) is "The World According to Garp". Some of his other good ones are "A Prayer for Owen Meany" and "The Cider House Rules".

Is there any particular author that you have to read absolutely every book that they have ever written?

Now i will sound like a nerd, Authors that I have read everything of at least once: Stephen King, Dean Koontz, John Irving, Anne Rice, Tom Clancy, JRR Tolkien (Including his sons books), William Buckley jr., and more.

That is how i read, I find an Author and read all his/her books in chronological order.

I too am an avid reader

reading 'Four Fires' by Bryce Courtenay (Power of One, Tandia are other well known titles) also 'The Shelter of Stone' by Jean Auel the latest and long awaited sequel in the Earth's Children' series, Clan of the Cave Bear, Valley of the Horses, The Mammoth Hunters and Plains of Passage, all of which I have read at least 3 times

I like historical fiction (or should that be hysterical LOL) like James Clavell 'Shogun'. I like Stephen King, the way he develops characters that you can identify with is great, but man what a scary imagination.

I do the same if the author really hits me the right way. I love Tolkien..but there is one book I cannot seem to get through. The Silmarillion. I've tried to start it at least 5 times and come to a dead stop about 3 chapters in. Is it really worth digging in for the long haul Skip?

Devillishgirl - Reading the Silmarillion all the way through is like reading the Bible (and this is exactly what Tolkien wanted it too be) I read an interview with one of his sons on it and he said that his dad wrote it just cause he wanted a beginning to middle earth.

Keep reading! The Simarillion is a tough book for about 5 chap, but well worth it. As well as giving the complete story of all 20 rings, it also reveals the origin of Gandalf and the White Council, and of Hobbits and Elves.

I cheat...i listen to audio books when i drive and doing housework. i rarely have time to sit and read, unless it is homework related, which is on the internet, so, i listen to audio books.

I am listening to "The DaVinci Code" by Dan Brown and read by Paul Michael. i am half way through it and it is getting so that i am finding excuses to have it turned on so i can finish it!

one bummer of audio books is that they are often abridged. But the Harry Potters that i listened to weren't and they were anywhere from 19 to 27 hours of listening WOW but the guy that reads for them is BRILLIANT!

Scarecrow, I have some sad news for you.

McCaffery has done a family franchise thing with Pern, and the latest dragon

book was written by her son. I saw it in hard cover at the bookshop yesterday.

I'm just starting a book called "The Gestapo Hunters", about the WW2 Mosquito squadron

which took out the walls at Amiens.

It's full of technical and historical stuff.
