We cover music often, but ICP's thread mad me think about this.....
What is the best break up song? You know, the one that every time you hear it, you still to this day think of that person..... or the one that helped you to cope with a loss?
Mine is~ I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Rait
What do you guys think?

When I was single, and consistently getting dumped, I had a few songs I would listen to until I got over it. Three that immediately come to mind are all by Brenda Lee: Break it to Me Gently, Fool #1, and All Alone Am I. She was very good with "break up" songs. And I still have all the records, too.

"ding dong the witch is dead"

Sugarsprinkles---My wife was a HUGE Brenda Lee fan!I think that
she still has all of her old 45s' in one of our sheds. We don't have a turntable anymore.Last year;we got rid of most of our old records(for room)but;I think;that those are still there.I'm a horrible packrat.I still have some 8tracks and an 8track player in
my garage. Irish

Irish,
I still have all my old 45's....probably close to 400 of them. I was and still am a huge Brenda Lee fan! Got a few of her LP's too. Think we have between 300-400 LP's too. And like you, no turntable anymore. Oh well, eventually we'll get another one.
Until our last fire, I had a bunch of 8-tracks too. Guess I'm just a music junkie....:D

"9-1-1" Wyclef Jean. I didn't find it to be so good a song after it played forever in the background as the relationship ended. :(

two out of three ain't bad- Meatloaf
Usually after a breakup, any song that made me think of the relationship was a downer.
Another one goes like this.... I ain't missing you at all.... since you've been gone, away....
Can't remember who did it.... can see him and everything!! On the tip of my tongue!!!
I believe that song was done by John Waite, Sadora. :)

This song reminds me of STO and I considered it our "break up" song. LOL he went to extreme measures to break up with me :p :( :boohoo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZRmBPXVUl8&ob=av2e
Melissa Etheridge later covered it and did a great job but STO introduced me to Greenwheel so when I hear that song I feel my heart being wrenched from my chest.

I'll stick by my comment from 10 years ago,
"I think a cross between 'The Carnival is Over' and
"ding dong the witch is dead"
'Ding Dong, the Carnival is Over' perhaps."
There is, of course, the post-breakup song "I'll never get over you getting over me".

1959, wasn't he still heavy on drugs at that time? I will say listening to this and knowing Jamie Foxx's version very well, I'd say Jamie Foxx did a very good imitation.

Here's a "good" country song sung by Johnny Cash ...
Gotta warn ya', it's a real tear jerker!
=======
FLUSHED FROM THE BATHROOM OF YOUR HEART
From the backdoor of your life you swept me out, dear.
In the breadline of your dreams I lost my place.
At the table of your love I got the brush off.
At the Indianapolis of your heart I lost the race.
I've been washed down the sink of your conscience.
In the theater of your love I lost my part.
And now you say you've got me out of your conscience.
I have been flushed from the bathroom of your heart.
In the garbage disposal of your dreams I've been ground up dear.
On the river of your plans I'm up the creek.
Up the elevator of your future I have been shafted,
On your calendar of events I am last week.
I've been washed down the sink of your conscience.
In the theater of your love I lost my part.
And now you say you've got me out of your conscience.
I have been flushed from the bathroom of your heart.
