View Full Version : Talent vs. Ineptitude

Everyone here is so unique and I have often wondered what each of you feels is your special talent. It can be anything you do particularily well. Or something unusual you can do that others may not be able to...... (if one of you can lick your eyebrows you sould PM me privately;):p;) )
Along the same line I wonder what you suck at? What just defies the laws of practical application in your life? What escapes you?

Geez Lil thats a hard one not talking about the one eyed trouser snake either :D
What am I good at apart from losing my car keys?
well I think I am good at organising things at sporting clubs ect., good at being friendly and caring and I have been told I am good at oral.:p
I am bloody hopeless at sewing and winning arguments with the female gender, never seem to be able to get the last word in somehow :redghost:

Production cost, requirements
whole of life costing, daily running costs,
Plant machinery and operator efficiencies,
yeah I know boring you shitless

Not at all Bilbo~ That is exactly what I was looking for! When you know what someone feels their strengths and weaknesses are, you can see them just a little bit clearer. Helps me choose my victims :p
Like now I know not to ask GG to darn my socks but ("I have been told I am good at oral.", GG) there does seem to be something he can take care of for me;)

I think my biggest strength is that I can be a very good friend. I'm also a very good listener, always there with a shoulder when needed and I try hard not to be judgemental. I would do almost anything for a true friend.
(somehow, I sound more like a puppy....:p
One of my weaknesses would be that I tend to give too much of myself in some relationships. And leave myself wide open to be hurt.
Another is that I don't have an artistic bone in my body! I can't draw worth a hill o' beans! I can visualize it but can't get the image down through the arm to the hand and on to the paper. I can barely draw stick figures! LOL! :D

Well Lilith I'm patient with teaching new people in my taekwondo classes......to those that get through my ''personal space barrier'', I'm a very good friend... I can darn socks and sew a little....I'm the one in our house that does all the repair work on clothes.....
As to what i suck at.......dont ask me to cook.....unless you are ready to go out for a meal.......I'm a constant worry-wart about the friendships I do make sometimes.....especially when I dont hear from them for a while...and I'm lousy at starting a project/chores......but once I get going.....look out !!!!!

I think my best strength would have to be that I am best under pressure. I can make something out of nothing without many problems. When tough times come up, that comes in very handy.
Weakness- anything to do with math.... is like trying to figure out an alien language to me!

Strength: good computing teacher for beginners, broad knowledge spectrum
weakness: canīt easily say no, canīt bring anything to an end, bad at deciding.
Well, I have a strength and weakness all rolled in one...
Like the old saying goes; Jack of all trades, master of none.
I can do a lot of things really good (and some not so good ;) ), but I have never been the best at anything.
(Oh yeah, as far as something that escapes me... Boy, do I suck at math! :p )

talent / strength - I can take care of things and people always have ... I am always the one to make sure everything is done.
(also not to mention the amazing things I can do with my tongue :) )
but my major downfall is I stress about anything and everything

I work at 7-11 so I know like the price of everything in the store...I'm also good at making change...too good. One time I looked at the clock....it was 2:45 and I thought oh..it's 55 cents to the hour...LOL :D
I can play 4 different instruments...trumpet, baritone, clarinet, and piano.
I kick ass at Tetris!
As for what I suck at....I have a short temper...especially at work.
I have problems managing people...delegation I guess. I have a hard time saying NO, and being assertive...this all goes along with my job, I'm a shift manager and I have to be assertive...and it's hard for me...

The Music Perfesser is really good at music trivia... I play guitar, some keyboards, flute, strongest talent is the bass... I can cook all the basic stuff so the family doesn't starve...
Weaknesses, most stem from low self-esteem, never really stand up for myself, so I never get the good jobs or the pay I deserve...

strength: Well I can eat a peach for hours ;)...Oh besides that. It would have to be my ability to listen. I've been told I'm a good listener.
weakness: I sometimes look for certainty in a world that has no such animal.

I would have to say that, besides being a generous and considerate lover, writing and verbal illustrations are my strengths. My weaknesses are the mundane day-to-day chores of life....I'll let 'em slip if a friend needs afew kind words..

picking only one thing each, cause i'm good at so many things and bad at so many more. i'm sucker for a few things as well
strength: cooking
weakness, temptation-wise: reading
weakness, character flaw-wise: i wig out and then regret it
Great bump, Lil! Can't say that my answer has changed much... but I don't think I'm quite as bad at math as I used to be.

Not one of the newbies, but I noticed I'd never responded to this thread. So, here goes ...
I enjoy art and photography and in helping others where I can. Probably the three most important things in my life are the three "F's" ... faith, family and friends.
Not very talented when it comes to woodworking or gardening (although I sure admire people that are).

I have found a talent at work for making people I consider acquaintances feel like my best friend. Men and women seem to open up to me and tell me things that are none of my business or ask to be involved in aspects of my life that are none of theirs.
I'm also really good at procrastination.

Talent: I have a facility with words, and I'm a good singer.
Ineptitude: Sports. Actually, I'm pretty kinesthetically challenged all around...the spirit is usually willing, but the flesh is weak in so many ways.

Interesting to review my response from, what, 9 years ago? Strengths haven't changed, really, but low self-esteem and/or getting good jobs w/good pay are no longer a concern. The round trip to Hell & back took care of that.
I suck at a lot of things, but I don't let that keep me from doing what I really wanna do anymore...like singing in key or playing lead guitar.
I guess my biggest weakness now is lack of patience with people in general; I can no longer suffer fools gladly.

This is not Pixies oriented, but an incredible case of multiple ineptitudes.
My local news service has come up with this gem.
MI5 files reveal bungled Nazi mission to US
Posted 9 hours 45 minutes ago
A Nazi submarine mission to the United States during World War II ended in farce after being hit by a series of disasters, newly-released files show.
The Germans planned to bomb roads, railways and factories during Operation Pastorius in June 1942, according to the files from Britain's MI5 domestic intelligence agency.
But even before it got under way the plot descended into a farce worthy of a comedy film.
One of the saboteurs, Herbert Haupt, got drunk in a Paris bar after a farewell dinner and declared to his drinking companions that he was a spy.
When the submarine arrived in the US, it ran aground on a sandbar as it dropped off the four agents on the coast of Long Island, New York.
A US coastguard discovered the Germans as they buried their supplies on the beach - but he was given $300 and persuaded to leave the men alone.
In a report on the mission, Victor Rothschild, head of MI5's counter-espionage division, wrote: "It was only owing to the laziness or stupidity of the American coastguards that this submarine was not attacked by USA forces".
The plot was only foiled when the leader of the spies, George Dasch, rang up the FBI, announced he was a saboteur and demanded to speak to the bureau's then-director, J Edgar Hoover.
His confession was initially dismissed but after a lengthy interview he was arrested and his fellow agents were rounded up, the files showed.
Despite the clumsiness of the mission, MI5 still regarded it as a serious threat.
"This sabotage expedition was better equipped with sabotage apparatus and better trained than any other expeditions of which the security service has heard," Mr Rothschild wrote.

I am horrible at starting housework, especially dishes and laundry.

I think I'm pretty good at looking past the peripheral items that tend to distract one from the main issue. I tend to go after the disease that causes the issues rather than address symptoms.
I forget. EVERYTHING! If I don't write it down, I'll forget to do it. I can remember facts, but never things to do.

Talent: I can execute like no one's business...I swear I could single handedly run a ground war from 6k miles away, if we ever needed a general with no military experience :p
Failure: I suck at anything that requires mental visualization...rotating figures in space ala IQ tests, putting together puzzles, building models, navigating without a map. I am completely unable to do any of these activities.
I'm a Chemical Engineer and Organic Chemistry almost flunked me out. Srsly.
Edit: Regarding that ground war...I'd delegate the responsibility of navigating to the enemy :p
