So,

If I take a walk eating a qumquat, with all my pets walking behind me , the hithermost being my pet platypus, Farkleberry, in Hackensak New Jersey, and we stumble across a field of Dinglberry's would this be a problem for anyone?

Ahh, Nutworld, I know from whence you speak...(living in MI too, as I do)

And that would be about halfway between Paradise and Hell, would it not??? (or approximately...or good enough for the thread..LOL)
For those not familiar with Michigan we actually do have cities named Hell, and Paradise. (I went to Hell just last summer and have the pictures to prove it! LOL):D

Oh, you Americans have nothing on Canada when it comes to funny place names... Reading the map of Newfoundland is practically a national diversion here! We even have songs about it: for example, the Arrogant Worms' pseudo-drinking song, "A Night on Dildo" ---

Oh Newfoundland, oh Newfoundland, you island in the sea
I love you oh so very much, I joined the Ministry
To show you people 'round the rock when tourist season's here
Although in my opinion it's a gem throughout the year
Well if you're one for swimming, don't think it's outta reach
You can go and take a dip along Groswater Beach
I know the name's misleading, that's quite a problem here
Instead let's go to Goobies and have ourselves a beer

From Woody Point to Come-By-Chance to good ol' Ferryland
Come take a look at Gander, Blackhead's mighty grand
Don't let the names deceive you, Newfoundland's mighty fine
So spend a night on Dildo if you think you've got the time

Well you can go to Blow-Me-Down before it gets too dark (GASP)
Oh sorry ma'am, I should have said, that's our provincial park
There's also Whippet Harbour, or maybe Butter Pot
Or maybe I'll just hit the pub I'm feeling like a shot
Well you can sail on Quidi Vidi, or look at Joe Batt's Arm
There's Placentia and there's Cow Head (MOOO!), they're so full of charm
Get married down in Kilbride, have a party in Hate Bay
Or have some screech in Fogo and forget about the day

From Woody Point to Come-By-Chance to good ol' Ferryland
Come take a look at Gander, Blackhead's mighty grand
Don't let the names deceive you, Newfoundland's mighty fine
So spend a night on Dildo if you think you've got the time
Okay, the Drinkin' Verse

*sing drunkenly here*

From Woody Point to Come-By-Chance to good ol' Ferryland
Come take a look at Gander, Blackhead's mighty grand
Don't let the names deceive you, Newfoundland's mighty fine
So spend a night on Dildo if you think you've got the time
So spend a night on Dildo if you think you've got the time
So spend a night on Dildo if you think you've got the time
COD!

Our poets write about our place names too --- just look at any volume of kids' poems by Dennis Lee (Jelly Belly, Alligator Pie, Garbage Delight, and so on)... Lots of giggles!

*giggling*

Nut... you should know by now, I AM a geek, and proud of it, too! :D:D:D

As for 'kludge', I was still a kid in the late '80s, and not really up on the nerdspeak yet, but... 'Kludge', as I know it, is a colloquial term functioning both a verb transitive and a noun. To kludge is to cobble together a functioning but inelegant combination of hardware and/or software to solve a particular problem. A kludge is the resultant Frankensteinian (<--- another giggle-word) creation.

(Okay, I got that much of the definition on my own, but being the dork I am, I had to go looking for more...)

Apparently the word's etymology is unknown, but it was first recorded in 1962.

The pronunciation I know and use rhymes with 'fudge', but evidently there is an alternate spelling and two pronunciations that are more common in the UK: 'kluge', which can be pronounced either to rhyme with 'luge' (with the 'e' left unvoiced) or as 'kloo-juh' (voicing the 'e' as an undefined schwa vowel but leaving the 'g' as a voiced alveo-palatal fricative)...

(Dammit, this would be so much easier in IPA --- International Phonetic Alphabet...)

*Nerdiness completely takes over and SFC is utterly unable to resist providing the attached IPA transcription for all three variants... and yes, she does actually own no less than four fonts specifically for IPA notations...*

Aaaaaaaaaaagggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Someone get me away from school NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
