Somehow, I felt compelled to watch it again.
Nope, the gecko's tail was fat where it should have been fat, spotted at the end like a leopard gecko's should be.
My favorite parts were that the "Cruel Governor's" and the "Geckoator's" names were the scientific binomens of the house cricket, and the leopard gecko, respectively.

That guy put a lot of time into the details, as you stated with the names. So I have to question his use of the (can't think what its called right now) craving, picture, relief, the credits are projected on both on the beginning and end of the clip. Why/how'd he choose that one?

It's a bas-relief, and I can answer as to why he chose that one. From what I can make out, it appears to show Bacchus (Dionysus tot he Greeks), in a pastoral scene.
