If I was OF's neighbor at $1 a week, I'd still be poor. Wine tab. But we'd be drunk, poor and happy.

Very happy indeed. What more can I say? :)

BTW, these farmhouses are so far into the backblocks that you have to drive for 4 hours to hear a banjo.

Now that's country life.

Would have to plan shopping trips carefully. Couldn't just run out to the store for milk. I'd be worried about getting to a doctor in an emergency.

Getting a doctor any time out there is difficult.

They want whoever rents them to have children, and send them to school to keep the schools open. How far away from home is the school? I would think most families would go for home schooling.

Home schooling is rare in Australia.

We have a system of distance education where course material is sent
to the kids, and lessons are broadcast on live interactive internet. This used to be done by radio via the School of the Air.

Yes I've heard of that radio school.

I think for all you'd have to do without to live out there and all you'd have to do to fix up the property and keep the farm running, $1.00 is too much.
