Syria Damascus streets a day before Congress
Life continues on the streets of Damascus, but the threat of a potential military strike from the US forces hangs over Syria. The US Congress reconvenes on 9 September and there will be a vote on military strike against Syria.

Our nation could be initiating another conflict that will surely escalate. Let's watch some movies.

Let's hope for once in our lives, we stay out of it. I guess I mainly have a problem hitting people who hate us in the hopes that the other folks who hate us will do better.

I think that proceeding on our own without the full support and cooperation of the UN as a joint move wouldn't be a "bold & decisive effort to do the right thing". It would be arrogant. Why do we always think we know better than anyone else?

Very true, WI. Even one of, if not the, closest of our allies ... the UK, has listened to their people and said no to military involvement. Seems like the people of our countries has more wisdom than our governments. Maybe that's why our forefathers wanted this to be the land ... OF the people, BY the people, and, FOR the people ... and tried to put in place laws that, if followed, would assure that to be the case.

But the better news today is that there are serious diplomatic efforts, that have been at least accepted in principle by Syria, to have Syria turn over it's chemical weapon stocks to an international commission, for eventual destruction.

So why bother even having a United Nations? We should just rule the world and make everyone do what we think is best.

WI, that's my plan when I run for president. I just have to wait until I'm 35.

So why bother even having a United Nations? ...
... becuse as a rule of thumb, by and large, and for the most part, "To jaw-jaw is always better than to war-war. (http://www.bartleby.com/73/1914.html)" as one report has it.

That's because they're so heavy. I think I'll just hang mine on the back of my throne.
