Crap on everything

Yesterday evening, my daughter was hit by a car. Low-speed impact. X-rays, CAT scan, all that good stuff done in the ER. No head injury. Nothing broken or dislocated. Soft tissue damage, both lower legs, left hip, left shoulder. Back home around 00:32 after ER visit. Mobility impaired, but nothing seemingly more serious.

I know what that's like, my youngest daughter was knocked off her bike when she was 6. A very looooong afternoon followed.

She's not exactly "OK": in a lot of pain, trouble moving around. Spend the morning getting her back and forth to the Ortho-Dude. Follow-up MRI scheduled for Thursday.

I believe it was mostly meant as a "glad it's not as serious as it could be". Which I agree, I'm glad to hear it's not nearly as serious as it could be. Hopefully it's just mostly bruising and subsequent stiffness rather than anything more serious. Keep us posted, and I sincerely wish her, and you, luck.

My daughter goes for PT after a car accident. Like your daughter, nothing broken. But soft tissue damage is very painful.

Daughter unit left for her MRIs at 12:30. Still waiting for her to get back with the results.

In the meantime, she's still looking like "M, and the amazing technicolor bruises".

So, yesterday, the daughter unit was able to hobble up the stiars for a shower. Definite improvement.

Follow-up with the Ortho-dude to examine & discuss the MRIs on Monday.

So, yeah, the follow-up with the Ortho-Dude today, with the MRI results. Basically, they were alarming enough that he shuttled her off to another Ortho-Dude in the same group; the new one specializes in knee & shoulder problems. Damage to both ACL & MCL or PCL in the knee (one torn, the other has a 3rd degree sprain). Slight fracture to the very top of the humerus that was missed by the x-ray/CAT scan. Damage to the rotator cuff & torn tendon in the shoulder. Both the knee & shoulder injuries are unusual. As a result, she is in both a cast & a sling for the next two weeks. She is very unhappy about this.

Are the casts fibreglass or plaster?

Fibreglass at least allow showering and gentle swimming.

And she had to go get the cast re-done last night (they warned us thi was likely to happen, in fact); the new one is a bit more comfortable than the old one was, so that's something. And no, she's not allowed to get it wet.

It was a cruel April Fool's joke my daughter played on her cast today. Telling it everything was going to be fine, nothing to worry about. Instead, of course, the people at the Orthopedists' office cut off the cast entirely. And replaced it with a funky brace. Means she can now probably get up & down the stairs (with great difficulty, but it's better than not at all). Physical therapy on her shoulder, which was on for the upcoming week, has been pushed back to next week.

Wrist surgery today. Hoping everything goes smoothly.

Well, the procedure took a whole lot fuckin' longer than anyone was thinking it would. But it turns out, the ligament wasn't as damaged as it appeared to be-cartilage was completely torn, but the ligament was "only" severely stretched. Subcutaneous pins to hold it in place, floating cartilage removed, recovery looks like it's going tot ake the full 6 weeks. Then another one for her rotator cuff in her left shoulder.

And she threw up from the anesthesia last night. But later, she was able to eat & keep down a cheeseburger, so the nausea didn't last long. Oh, what fun.
