There is a day/night military exercise happening in Darwin at the moment.

There is a day/night military exercise happening in Darwin at the moment.
But you're not allowed to watch it. You didn't travel the minimum 5,000 miles required.

I don't watch it, I just photograph it for later.

Some of the military jets are pretty cool when you can catch sight of them.

Indeed. I have never before seen Sukhois, I have seen some early generation MiGs. The Su-27 and Su-30s we have visiting at the moment are just that extra bit special.

. . . and it's hard to go past a good tank-buster.

An airshow to go along with the exercise ?

Oldfart

Sadly not, only watching the takeoffs and recoveries.

One Hornet did a few turns and rolls over the harbour for the Thursday markets, but I count that as a demo, not a show.

An interesting thing today. Two Thai F-16s recovered extremely closely. I don't know what the issue was, but one landed while the other did a circuit, then landed.

Wonderful pictures, OF!!

Wish I could have been there watching the non-show and seen the two Sukhois! Looks like you had a great time.

I did, DB.

Glad to see you back online.

Sharp nosed thing isn't it?

Oldfart
08-15-2012, 06:52 AM
Yep. It picks insects out of the air in high-speed swoops.

I was closer to the airstrip tonight, but without a foot-wide lens

this is as good as I get.

01 shows the afterburner splashing on the runway.

Not military planes but got to watch the night of fire at Houston raceway with the jet cars also very cool and noisy.

Very true kleclere. Afterburner, the closer the better = GOOD.

I took a lot of pictures of military planes, helicopters and armored vehicles in Germany but they came back over exposed. Took them to AAFES to get developed.

Conspiracy?

kleclere

I think so since I also sent more of the same back to the states and they came back just fine. And it was only certain pictures that were over exposed. lol

You can probably get higher resolution pics of the same planes now, but they're just not the ones you took.

The boys from Singapore are playing on, after the main event.

The local wildlife is competitive.

Eagles may soar, but a weasel doesn't get sucked into a jet engine.

The interweb is replete with pics of splatted birds, but I wonder if the Flying Sub from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea had to deal with fish-strike?

A Montana based B-52 has joined the games.

Wow, I haven't seen a BUFF in years.

Oldfart

Bugger bugged out to Guam. Those pics are it waving goodbye.

BUFFs used to fly out of here often, as our Delamere Bombing Range is set up for both digital and real bombing.

It was a blast from the past, a true Cold Warrior.
