I know it's late notice, but if you're looking for something to do this Thursday, 3/15, it's time once again for the Hōnen Matsuri fertility festival in Komaki, Japan near Nagoya City. Many cities host a fertility festival seeking the gods approval for bountiful crops, but the festival at Komaki is unique because it's symbol for fertility in the male phallus.

A procession of persons carrying the symbol winds from one shrine to another and features an 8' long phallus carved from one tree. But, it's not alone. Others are carried in the procession and many booths exist selling the symbol to visitors.

Take for example this lovely tea service for that special company you want to entertain. Note the seashell shaped "cups" with their image of a vagina all ready to receive the tea.

The large phallus, of course, is quite spectacular!

Okay, you've got two days. Go and have fun ... and take lots of pictures. :)

What part of Japan were you in, Rabbit? I used to live in Sendai for 1 1/2 years and Yokohama for another 1 1/2. Beautiful country.

I was in Akasaka and Yokohama mostly, but I've been to other parts of the country before (e.g. Kamakura and Kyoto).

It is indeed a beautiful country. Cherry blossom time right now!!!

Yep, and that buddha is 800 years old and has survived tsunamis, earthquakes, and typhoons. Amazing.
