But I went back in October to get follow-up pics of the Potomac River, C & O Canal, and some fall foliage pics, as well. Again, too large for attachments, so I'll post links to the pics on Photobucket.
Many (most ?) of the locks on the canal have water by-passes for overflow. As here:

And here, that bridge, with the log, but nowhere near as much water:

This time, the bridge was not closed, so we were able to get to some of the islands in the middle of the river.
