1) He seems to contradict himself--talking about how the tried and true is so wonderful (and it certainly can be), but then giving suggestions as to how to spice it up and make it different at the end of the article. I guess he's focusing on variety in foreplay, but I guess I don't make the distinction, or some kind of obvious shift, mid-romp.
2) Mr. AZRH and I have been blessed, in that we've always had good sex together, and I have no complaints. But as good as homemade pot roast is, you still yearn for Italian or Chinese or tacos sometimes; people like variety, even when they love what's at home. I sometimes get wistful for the excitement of a new kiss, or exploring someone new for the first time. The energy inherent in novel intimacy is a pretty heady drug, and so delicious.

The whole concept of sex being tied to love or lust is very limiting.
There are many reasons to have sex, and love or lust have very little to do with most. And those reasons should have very little to do with commitment.
Reasons? joy, sadness, loss, celebration, comfort, healing, among others
Women intuitively understand this. Men, not so much.
I came to understand this after the loss of my first wife. I moped around, was depressed, and was becoming self-destructive. One night my best friend's wife knocked on my door, came in and fucked me silly, and said, "snap out of your shit. You have a long life ahead of you."
That was healing sex, and my best friend had sent her. That sex was no threat to their relationship. They are still together 15 years later.
Just my thoughts on the subject. Sorry for the ramble.
